Hi,
I recently put an i7/Windows 7 rig together with a Gigabyte-UD5 mobo, Corsair RAM (xms3), Nvidia Quadro and a BeQuiet 650w power supply.
Build was having stability issues @ stock with random rebooting/shutdown/failure from coming out of sleep mode. This was happening pretty much from the off. I posted about it here. After testing I narrowed it down to the PSU which was starting to act up with some horrific screetching noises.
I found people on this forum who had experienced the exact same problem here and here. In one case the PSU ended up blowing up, so hardly a coincidence then, same brand, same PSU unit.
I call up ocuk - the person on the phone seemed to think it was a dead cert faulty unit from the issues I had described, even going as far to say that I should avoid using it cause it could blow up at any time. So he arranged an RMA, at the same time recommending Corsair as the most reliable PSU to get. So I ordered the HX 750w on the same day (roughly the same price).
Since installing the Corsair, i've had zero problems. Not one issue. PC is running like a dream. And the PSU is silent, with a only a slight whirl coming from the PSU fan you'd expect - none of these high pitched squeeling noises that I was getting.
The problem now is OC-UK are saying they've found no fault with the BeQuiet, and that i'm now liable to pay service+vat+shipping back fees. Apparently there could be an 'incompatibility' with the PSU and the rest of my system and thats down to me.
Could this PSU 'incompatibility' really be true? I'd heared of motherboards and certain types of memory and other components not playing well with each other but never heard issues with a standard ATX power supply not being 'compatible', deinitely not a £100+ one.
Please advise, as the PSU i'm being sent back is useless to me.
