Hello I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on CO alarms. I have to fit a new one in a rental and would like to get the safest possible.

As far as I can work out as long as the alarm complies to BSEN 50291 I should be fine legality wise but obviously I want to make things as safe for the tenant as possible.

Is there such a thing as a best CO alarm?

Mines a Fireangel, lasts 7 years and is sealed unit so you can't tamper with the installed battery. Sounds an alarm when the battery is nearing the end of it's life and you replace the complete unit then.
In the past people have been known to remove the battery from some other CO monitors as they keep going off

I'm subscribed to Which and they did a review of smoke alarm (not CO ones I admit).

FireAngel came dead last, 2 models failed to go off in the time required (British Standards) for smouldering fires
The manufacturer said
Sprue’s view is that, because of the strong performance of the alarms in the other three test fires, the alarms would go off in time in the event of a house fire. Sprue says: ‘We have no concerns whatsoever as to this alarm’s ability to provide a sufficient level of protection for consumers.’

Top ranked ones were Kidde and First Alert.

I went out the same day I saw this and changed all my FireAngel alarms, maybe an overreaction but smoke alarms aren't something you take risks with.
