Is this a board, drive or OS issue?

Hey folks, this is quite an intermittant issue, but I am not sure what would cause it.

System spec;

Q9450 / Asus Rampage Formula X48 / 4Gb OCZ Ram / 2 x Samsung F1 1TB drives in RAID0 array / Windows Vista ultimate.

Anyhow;

Sometimes, I will turn the PC on, and it will come up;

BOOTMGR missing or some other similar message.

If I power down the PC from the mains, and try again, it will most likely work perfectly, or certainly if I turn off again, then on, it will work fine.

It will the work fine for days.

This is intermittant, I could be using my PC now, shut it down, and this afternoon boot it up, and it happens again, or it may not happen again for a week or so!

On the Raid array screen just after POST, when the above happens, it's usually showing 'failed' under one of the drives.

To me, it could be either;

RAID Controller faulty...
One of the HD faulty...

It's been happening for about 3 months or so on and off, and I backup my data, but neither drives show errors etc and are over a year old.

yea got same problem, but its every time lol. I cant get vista to repair it so just leave the disk in
the drive and boot from cd/dvd, when I was trying to solve it found it was a common problem.
MS should make a patch to fix this.
I might be putting win 7 on, so havent bothered reinstalling vista.
boots fine from disk and has done for a few months :)
OH yea you only need disk in to boot once up and running you can remove disk if you only have one drive.
only leave mine in as have 2 drives and less damage risk if I leave it in as every time I boot I need disk.
its a small pain but less hasle than a reinstall for me :)

If you have 'BOOTMGR missing' message then it may be corruption on the hard drive. But if it follows the 'failed' message on the RAID screen then it isn't anything to do with the OS. More likely a faulty hard drive or maybe a dodgy SATA or power lead.
