Is this a capped off gas pipe?

Hi all

I've currently got an electric oven and hob. Directly to the right of the built in oven unit is this pipe, and this is a photo of the top of the pipe. Does this look like a capped off gas pipe to anyone? I'm looking to reinstate a gas oven if at all possible.

Many thanks

No actually to me that looks like an old water pipe, although i could be wrong the connector looks like it would fit onto a tap or so rather than a cooker.

Usually gas pipes have soldered fittings as opposed to that which is a compression fitting.

Like other have said, it's impossible to say.

It's just another 15mm copper pipe, could be gas, hot or cold water as well!

You'd need to trace it back to it's source to be sure.

TBH it looks quite easy to just get some mole grips and open it a little and find out then quickly do it up again shouldnt be to much trouble just a rag to catch any water and you will be able to tell it its gas just be quick :)

Thanks for the replies. The pipe is on it's own (no opposite pipe as if it had been a radiator) but this house was originally built in the 1930s and what is now the far end of the kitchen where the oven and this pipe are located was the bathroom when first built. I guess there's no way of knowing unless we take the top off it!

BTW - the house next door (identical to ours but opposite way around) DOES have a gas oven in the same exact spot.

Here's an idea: try tapping the hot and cold water pipes with a metallic object, if it's audible in this pipe you have a good idea it's not gas!

Do the same with the gas copper pipe (should be visible at the meter) if you can feel/hear it then you know (pretty much) it's gas

...of course the problem is if all the pipes run together under the floor at some point :D

Actually thinking about it there would probably be some PTFE tap around that stopper if it was gas so i would bet its water but like I said it would be to much trouble just to turn the stopper a little and see.

Right I've been doing a tapping test. I identified the gas inlet on the boiler which is upstairs in the bathroom and while someone was tapping that, I went downstairs and listened. The sound was quite pronounced from this little pipe but wasn't at all from the hot and cold water pipes that run to the sink just 50cm away.

When other pipes were tapped, the sound didn't come from this little capped pipe.

PTFE is used for water as well, you're not meant to see the tape if you do a good job though.
