Guys,

Just bought a Yate Loon off a popular auction site, I'm not sure as to its authenticity. Shouldn't it have a black badge with the specification on it? (like the one below it):

It looks the same as the Nexus fans I bought a while ago. When mine come through I'll put them next to each other, then I should be able to tell if the plastic is an exact match.

Well, the direction/airflow print on the side is the same. They feel the same, and the fan movement feels identical.

One slight difference between them (and mind that my other fans were Nexus, not Yate Loons, subtle difference) is that these have a hole all the way through the screw holes, whereas my Nexus ones were blocked in the middle.

The feel of the plastic, the colour, the movement all feels very familiar though. I think they're genuine tbh.

Cheers for checking that out. Yeah, perhaps they were sold off cheaper or something. I notice on your pic you had a go at looking under the sticker haha mine looks the same, can't stick it back on. Think I will tear it off!

Anyone know what the quietest case fans are? I got an Akasa ultra quiet 80mm fan which is stated at 18dB which i thought was quiet. But when i installed it, it seemed quite loud compared to no case fans and just the psu and processor fan running. Its currently unplugged and just sitting here. Any recommandations for a very quiet fan?

They look different to me. Look at the 4 pieces of the frame between the middle (where black sticker is) and the outer frame. One is rounded, one is squared.

Example:

The blades of the original also appear more 'curved', and have a less rounded leading edge. They also appear not as 'shiny'?!

I'd never buy anything from the 'popular auction site' with the influx of fake memory / memory cards / CPUs etc etc that have been reported, its just not worth it.

LMAO Melbourne! So you testing them at work?

Nymins: Quietest are supposdly Yate Loons, Nexus, and Noctua S12's. Ambers are quite good I have some of those here.

The blades do look different I think your right, the arms seem a little different also.

Cool thanks. Although i looked up the "Orange Yate Loon D12SL-12" rated at 1350 RPM @ 12V, 47 CFM, 28dB. Its 10dB louder than my Akasa one but has a slower rpm. Will that mean that overall it is quieter?

EDIT: Btw this is the fan i have: http://www.akasa.co.uk/akasa_english/spec_page/fans/spec_ak_181bk_2b.htm

Agreed. The trouble is most manufacturers lie about the rated cfm and noise levels of their cards. I'd add Sharkoon fans to the above list, I haven't used them myself though.

The Loons have better airflow according to those stats, Ambers are fairly quiet not too much to notice between the decibels - its the airflow though thats the decider!

I've just replaced my old Papst 80mm fans with Nexus and the difference is remarkable, the tone of the Nexus fans is really deep and its so much better.
