We recently learned that hackers gained unauthorized access to the decade-old BioWare server system supporting the Neverwinter Nights forums. We immediately took appropriate steps to protect our consumers’ data and launched a thorough ongoing evaluation of the breach. We have determined that no credit card data was compromised from the servers, nor did we ever have or store sensitive data like social security numbers. Our investigation shows that information such as user names, encrypted passwords, email addresses, mailing addresses, names, phone numbers, CD keys and birth dates from these forum accounts on the system may have been compromised, as well as other information (if any) that you may have associated with your EA Account. In an abundance of caution, we have changed your password to ensure account security. Please visit this EDITED to reset your password immediately.

We take the security of your information very seriously and regret any inconvenience this may have caused you. If your username, email address and/or password on your EA account are similar to those you use on other sites, we recommend changing the password at those sites as well. We advise all of our fans to always be aware of any suspicious emails or account activity and report any suspicious emails and account activity to Customer Support at 1-877-357-6007.

Is this a scam or not?

I have tried logging into my Bioware account, but am not having any luck (but that could just be because I have forgotten my password)!

Edit: I reset my password directly through the Bioware website, so hopefully I should be OK now.

I got one to, but just reset my password straight from the site. Seems like it's just a precaution for a select number of accounts though. Better safe than sorry I guess.

I got one too, though they just disabled my account completely.

They haven't disabled it completely, just reset your password for you. Use their password recovery gubbins to pick a new one and you'll be back in in no time. :)

I've just done mine but like the above poster I deleted the emails and reset from the website.

They had some old login data stolen on the neverwinter 2 forums or something?, even though I didn't have an account there they might just be resetting stuff to be sure.

Headers: from 127.0.0.1 (HELO mta907.em.ea.com) (63.211.90.191)

Appears to be legit unless the hackers have compromised and kept control of an ea.com server.

Lets hope this hacking remains restricted to the decade old servers, the last thing you need when you're about to launch a pay to play MMO is for the public to have the perception that their info might get hacked.

Got one in my spam box a while ago, but normally bio ware stuff are a priority email in my gmail account. Before that i did forget my password and i reset it so thats probably why i didn't get one now.

I don't know what's going on with mine, I can't login at Bioware or the EA store/customer service account. Haven't had the email re the hack, and I'm not receiving the email either when I request a new password. PITA, I think I'm going to have to write to customer services and hope that I get everything back.

I find it odd they introduce it with 'our decade old servers got hacked', very odd they admit they spend ZERO on new security in 10 years, and allowed a string of data which would allow for full identity therf in a box older than anyones home PC.
Frightening lax security.

Is this related to just nwn and nwn2, or also to things like DA:o?

Bioware merged their online stuff with EA a while ago, I believe the "decades old" reference is to their servers before the merger. Oh, and I got that email as well, first thought was not another ****** one.
