i got 2058 in 3dmark06 with this system:

pentium 4 @ 3.00ghz
1gb ram
160gb harddrive
geforce 6800 overclocked to 379 core/ 680 memory
19" 1280x1024 monitor.

Is this a good score 4 my specs, or can i improve even more?

Well, are there games you want to play that you can't?

3dMark is good for general testing, but not that great an indication of overall performance.

I think anyone would say of you want to play any of the newest games, you are going to need to upgrade your GPU.

Plus, you are going to want at least another 1GB RAM.

I am assuming thats a AGP card/mobo. If thats the case, and you have money to spend, I would say upgrade to either an x1950 pro or 3850....

its a pci express card, i can get 30-40 fps on half life 2 on full settings, 2x aa, 4xaf, 20-30 fps on team fortress 2, on some medium, some high settings, and about 20 fps on cod 4 all settings lowest at 1280x1024

Well, as long as it plays the games you want to play at acceptable levels, then, seriously, don't worry what score you get in 3d06 :D

yes that guy is correct. i use 3dmark06 just for comparasion and for testing to see if a overclock say on my graphics card was worth while.

Now is fine. Intel will be launching new tech at the end of the year but that's at least six months off.

Right now, you can get a Pentium E2160, decent P35 motherboard, 2GB of DDR2 and a GeForce 9600GT for £252. It will totally blow your current setup away...you'll be looking at 8000+ in 3DMark for example.

ill need to keep my current setup for work purposes, but ill build a new system aswell, im looking at a p35, e8200, some cheap dominator ddr2, 9800 gx2 or gtx, antec 900. im using my new rig 4 work and gaming, and some of the parts ill get vat free! what do people think? good rig, bad rig?

good rig? bad rig? opinions?

Either get a HD3870XT 512 [ATI] or an 8800GTS [Nvidia] i don't think there is much price difference in them now. but reviews show that they are both similarly equal, some games GTS dominates the XT and others the XT > GTS.
Get a p35 chipset, 2ghz Core 2 Duo and 2gb Geil 6400C4 ram.
you may need a new power supply and/or case.
