Is this a good choice for DVD + Amp + LCD?

Hi guys,

Gonna move into my new flat soon and I didn't have a TV etc in my old flat because it was too small - just used my computer for everything.

Currently looking at:

Hyundai A321 - £600 inc VAT (ish) - 32" LCD with HDMI input

Samsung HD950 - £100 inc VAT (ish) - Upsampling DVD payer with HDMI out

EDIT - Denon AVR 1706 - £200 inc VAT (ish)


I'll be using a set of 5 Celestion speakers - F20 floorstanders for fronts, F10's for rears and an F35C for centre. No sub. Might get one later, but the floorstanders ought to provide enough bass in the meantime.

Am I right in thinking I'll use HDMI for video output to the TV and optical input to the amp from the DVD player?

EDIT - Oh, and if it makes any difference, this won't be used for TV at all. Just DVDs and consoles (Nintendo only - from NES to Wii :D)

Not particularly impressed myself with the TV but others on here like it

HD950 - I have the 850 which I like a lot but unaware of differences but for £100 you cant really complain

Never had any use of a samsung amp - I have always gone Sony or Denon Myself
 
What was it about the TV you didnt like?

EDIT - Also, just read your comments about upscaling from the Denon AV amp. Does this mean I could input a video signal from an S-video or Composite source and the receiver would upsample it? To a res of my choosing?

regarding Hyundai - well tbh they dont make decent cars - and they are more famous on 4 wheels than they are regarding TV's!!

Dont think they were my comments but I could be mistaken but no you cant choose the res but any input to the denon can be output via componant and this should upscale to 1366*768 or whatever natural res of that panel is

........I think I have just read the post you refer to, and my dvd player (sony freeview dvd/hdd recorder) upscales dvd via componant input of the donon which outputs to My Sammy tv - I dont believe the Denon upscales itself even though I havent tried s-vhs etc inputs on denon

I see. So you input to the AV receiver, which then converts the signal to component, which the TV then scales natively?
 
Denon 1906 - Awesome Amp, won lots of rewards...

Made my windows shake tonight teamed up with some kef speakers ... watching Pirates of the Caribbean :)

As I said I dont use any of the other inputs - I have no requirements to want to.

All I have is a couple of componant inputs used ( one X360 and one DVD /hdd Rec) straight into the denon and then the single denon componant out to the TV ie no conversion necessary

I GUESS that inputting s-vhs input and outputting it to componant could work but I cant verify it , and I am not sure how the scaling would work - probably down to the display panel used
