Is this a good choice for first case?

antec1200 all the way
far far better for air cooling than the corsair
have a look on google at the reviews, antec 1200 v obsidian

antec 1200 might be better for cooling. BUT corsair A. looks better. B. has better management of everything. I was looking at the antec but going to get the corsair. Just because it make using it everyday easier. no more taking everything off, just to get at you hhd.s.

that wasnt the question tho was is

" Does it have good air flow for air cooling the components. " was the question

not does it look good

Considering you still have components to buy, I'd go with the antec for its superior cooling, but also because it'll leave you more money to put towards making your (first?) build awesome, not just awesome looking.

If you going to spend money on a case. then your going to want it to look good. and because this is his first build. that case would make it easier for him to set up.

Yeah, but that £80 could be put towards an SSD or processor that will make his everyday experience better, which will matter more than how it looks.

I am going to throw the Coolermaster 690 II Avd. into the picture. Its a great size with good options for cleaning up those cables (which will help air flow). I would say its not as easy to cable as the Corsair, but with effort you can get the same desired cleaness. The Antec would be far more difficult to tidy to cables up, but anything is possible.

As far as the actual cooling goes. The 690 is ok with the stock fans, but replace then with nice 120/140mms fans and your laughing. If you have the budget for a Corsair case, then look at lower priced cases and see what you can do with the change?

As far as your question about air flow and cooling for components goes, the 690 wont dissapoint you, but at the end of the day, it is your choice and I am sure whichever you buy, the helpful people here will help you get the most out of it.

its not exactly hard setting up an antec1200 is it? and the cable management is very good too
just because the corsair has the word tool free and slots for cable management doesnt mean its going to be an easier job than the 1200.
im first to admit the antec does have some weaknesses in the looks dept ( hdd cables on view ) but there is a work around for that. you have 3 120mm intakes with the option to add another on the inside is i have which blows air right onto my asus 5870's, with the added function of turning the intakes up or down to pull or not more air
my cards idle at 29 - 31 and there sat right on top of eachother, when i turn the additional internal fan on blowing onto them i gain 2-3 degreess less heat after 5 mins
so if you want something to keep them cards cool i can highly reccoment the 1200

Thanks for all you're input. Ive been looking at all the cases said. But i do like the look of the corsair and the layout seams better. so i might be heading towards the corsair. But will keep on reading up and in a couple of days i will make my discussion.
Also im looking at maybe getting the hd50.
But that maybe ambitions

Corsair all the way, don't listen to them. Why get a plastic piece of tat when you can have an incredibly well made and well designed case?

which costs more and doesnt do what he origionally asked it to do compared to the suggested ones

i dont know why ppl complain about the air flow of the corsair.

it really isn't that bad. The main problem is that the stock fans are not the best, althou they do work ok.

but a simple change to the fans would improve that anyways.

as long as the case is capable of keep the system inside at a decent tempreture then who cares.

the corsairs only drawback is the price, but if you have the money and are willing to spend it on the case then y not.

it'll certain last you a while

I'm not sure about everyone else but if I bought a case for £200 I would expect it to clean itself and I would not be thinking to spend extra on some fans. The Corsair obsidian is mainly for watercooling functionality, so I'm not sure it will cool your 2 X 5870 well enough as other cases.

For a first build, I would recommed you to look at Coolermaster 690 II Avd, Antec 902, and Coolermaster HAF922. The bigger versions of these cases are also decent if you need more space such as Antec 1200, Coolermaster HAF932.

Although I'm not sure if any of these cases will be as elegant as the Corsair however, as these are gaming cases and is designed primary for air cooling.

The corsair is actually an air cooled case it was actually never really designed for watercooling (they just made it an option). Also you talking about 2/3 degree's different between the cases when ur talking about the 200 quid mark. You main focus will be not what case u use but what fan's and where u place them. It's essential that you have some air flowing between the two cards (also think about getting an two slot extration fan below ur bottom gc). So really i say if you like the case go for it as that will give u a lot of growth (just remenber that you buying a super tower case (trust me they are massive when u get them).

So choosing the corsiar over antec (and others in the price range) really makes no difference. Pretty much buy depending on looks cause no matter whether ur buying the antec a lian li (v2110 got myself) or a silverstone. However i will say this coolermaster might have some nice cases but there weight is extreme (might not be the same with all of them just the ones i've seen). But just remenber if ur gonna get the corsair ur gonna have to mod it slightly to have a fan point at the gc otherwise ur gonna get problems.

Other than that ull be fine just make sure u get urself some decent fans and ull be fine.

Indeed, the corsair is a great chose for a case, you just need an extra fan to get some of the air to flow to the gpus, then the airflow will be fine. Plus, if you do plan to go watercooling in the future, this case is one of the best for it.
