Been giving it some thought and in recent times console gaming is likely to be the way I'm going (due to family commitments). However, I'm a stickler for wanting crisp and great visuals (hence being a PC gamer), so I'm in the market for a reasonably priced 4K HDR TV to play Xbox One X and PS4 Pro games, whilst an eye on what the next generation is going to be. Don't want it to be too big so I'm comfortable with up to 49inch but be perfectly happy with 43 inch, I'll be in a small room as it will be our play-room too.

Will this TV stand the test of time and really pop the visuals of current gen? Possibly even next gen games consoles? (sorry if I'm not allowed to link websites)

From what I've read the lower end QLED's are missing some features like VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) so they aren't as future proof as the higher end ones, not many current TV's have VRR anyway it's basically new to some 2019 TV's (part of HDMI 2.1). I think even the 49" Q70 is missing it you have to go 55" Q70 or better. HDR is not going to be very good either as the Q60 is edge lit and according to Rtings.com it only reaches about 380nits peak brightness (see their Youtube review), add to that there are a lot of complaints about light bleed on Samsung's website.

The Panasonic GX800 is roughly the same spec and a bit cheaper and if it's anything like last years FX750 I'd recommend it, if you want better HDR though you'd need to spend more money I'm sorry to say. If HDR is important look for the "HDR Premium" logo it's a certification for TV's that do HDR properly and don't just have a tick box HDR mode hobbled by a poor panel that is no brighter than any other TV.

I just bought a LG 55SM8600PLA for £820, its a 2019 Nanocell TV with HDMI 2.1 and 120hz. No amps or graphics cards available for it yet. But it should be a bit more future proof.

A Sony XF90 is gonna be the best option without breaking the bank. Avoid Samsung under 55'', they are gimped. As for forward looking features ala hdmi 2.1 it's too early unless you want to pay even more (lg b9/c9 etc). Definitely don't buy anything before black friday.

I just bought a LG 65SM9010PLA for the HDMI 2.1 etc, as far as i was aware the SM8600 is still hdmi 2.0?

Problem with smaller display, despite 43 and 49 being big compared to the usual monitors around, for TV, they're entry-level. Any TV at those sizes, offering good features, and not all features available or noticeable at those sizes, would be very expensive, negating the benefits of a smaller display.
The only scenario where a more expensive 43-49 TV would make sense is if the space for it is limited.
Tried 2 different TVs when first start upgrading my PC last year. First the idea to replace a 1080p IPS Dell with 2 1080p IPS same size. Then a LG 4k 32" IPS monitor, then a LG 4k 43" IPS TV, a Samsung 4k 40" VA TV, then a IIYAMA 4k 32" VA monitor, then settled with a Dell 27" 1440 TN.
The reason to consider the TV as monitor was because of the good experience with the LG 65" I use for the living room, but clearly such size wasn't practical as monitor, and smaller models doesn't offer the same resources, or if do, would be hard to justify paying for a 40" or 43" TV as much as I paid for a 65" TV.
