Iv got a Thermaltake Shark case, tomorrow im looking at getting
a

Abit in9 32x wifi mobo and

2gb of Crutial Ballistix ram.

Just wondered if you guys think everything will run coherently with one another??

My other bits are nothing special and will get upgraded in due course

Thanks in advance :D

well i plan on using it for music production and gaming, my procesor at the mo is a 2.8 pentium D but i plan to upgrade this in a few months. (maybe quad core)

I hope to get a 8800GTX in a month (and go SLI at somepoint in the future), the ram will be DDR2800mhz. and i may do a little overclocking but i wont be pushing the board to its limits.
Cheers

SLi isn't worth it. By the time you get your second GTX there'll be a card that costs just as much that'd give you much better performance.

The above two bits would cost you £239.97 from OcUK right now. The Geil in This Week Only will overclock and run just as well as that Ballistix while costing much less. The Asus P5K motherboard is just as good an overclocker and will last just as long. That right now would cost £121.30. That's a savings of £118.67, enough for a new E6750 or the lion's share of a new 45nm CPU in a few months time.

:) Thanks for your input Billy, Could someone suggest a non SLI board then that has good overclocking capabilities and is pretty stable ? Would I be right in thinking a P35 based model ?

Id prefer a non Asus board though due to past discrepances.

The Gigabyte GA P35C DS3R is a good choice in the lower range. The Abit IP35-Pro is the best choice at the higher end of the price scale. Both are very good boards.

Again cheers Billy but i think im gonna go with my original idea of

Abit in9 32 max wifi
&
Crucial Ballistix DDr2 PC6400

As I can buy them both for new for around £170 :)

Because at any FSB (assuming you're not running a divider) 8 or higher you'll probably never even reach the stock speed of the RAM, let alone overclock it much. For example with a Q6600 (9x multi) you'd have to 'clock it to 3.6 GHz just to reach the stock speed of the RAM. For a Pentium D 805 (20x multi) you'd have to 'clock the CPU up to 8 GHz before reaching the RAM's rated speed. Bog standard PC2-6400 is plenty fast for most people. That's why I think you can save some money to put toward a nice upgrade in the future. :)

Ok forgive me as im not totally down with dividers and FSB. I have a pentium D CPU at the mo, would I be able to get 800mhz from the Crucial Ballistix just by sticking the ram in the mobo and booting it up ?
