I have a chance to buy the following, is it worth buying now or waiting until new mobile hardware is launched, will I regret it?

  • Alienware 17 R3 - i7 6820HK, 16GB DDR4, 512GB PCIE-SSD, 980m 8GB, 4k Screen
  • Alienware Amplifier
  • Nvidia 1080 (on release)

All for ~£2000 and this is brand new from Dell. I can't find anything from gamer brands like Asus ROG, Gigabyte etc in the same price range and with the added ability of the Amplifier. So should I go for it?

Is that lot really £2k ? I mean the 1080 is going to be something like £600 odd and the amplifier I thought was going to be £200 odd so that only leaves about £1200 for the laptop which doesn't seem possible for that spec.

In the end, I got.

Alienware 17 R3 with the above spec, the amplifier, corsair rgb Strafe, corsair rgb scimitar, ocuk premium xl mat, 17 laptop cooler, Alienware 17 inch backpack, cable organisers and a 12 way gang lead and £550 left for a 1080.

All for £1760 :)

Information is needed as this implies only circa 1k for the actual 980m laptop alone, which cant be right (and if it is i want one).

Salary Sacrifice Deal through work directly from Dell :) except some accessaries from OCUK.

Also got an upgrade to 32GB DDR4 and the 1TB PCIE-SSD

Ah I see. So you've either got around a 32% discount or a 42% discount depending on whether you're a higher rate taxpayer or not, over 3 years?

My work do a scheme too but the laptops are preselected and are crap.
