Is this a good OC?

ok I seem to be running with the following settings , is this OK ? and should I change anything.

I haven't run stability test yet, just want input first ( don't want to fry anything)

CPU -> 10 x 356.46 = 3564.66mhz (1.46v) -> 1.4 in bios Asus AI shows 1.46
RAM -> 534.6 2:3 = 1603.8mhz (2.25v)
FSB -> 1425.79
CPU Temp 46c Idle.

Many thanks & Happy Xmas to all OcUK members :D

if it is stable then that's a very respectable OC. :) However load temps might be a bit high once you start stability testing.

Thanks for the reply, I've dropped the vcore to 1.35v in bios and it seems ok, I tried lowering it to 1.3v but it BSD'd @ windows, so tried 1.315 that booted but then froze @ desktop, so tried 1.325 that booted but the onboard sound was all crackly, so decided for 1.35v (which Intel show as Max on box!), seems ok now though Asus AI shows 1.42, why is this?

The idle temp has dropped to 44c not much really.

Shouldn't my Tuniq cool better than this or am I working the sucker :D

Edit : Oh and what's acceptable load temps?

i would say about 1.5-1.55 on very good air...depending on the temps.

Most are comfortable only under 1.5

Well I've been running SP2004 for 1hr 30 mins now, stable!

I had to drop the OC to 3.46ghz from 3.56ghz, I'm running on 1.35v but the CPU temp is @ 56-57c so I don't think i can push it much further, if I up the vcore then it will get hotter right?

Once I get some mouse & Keyboard extender cables I can move my case I have 4 side fans but the are smack up against the PC table, so no air flow, that might help a little, but still don't think I will get much more out of this thing.

Shame I thought the Tuniq Tower would give better results than it has , I've got it on max speed!

Oh well , still a reasonable OC at the end of the day, but I sure aint gonna win no medals :D

1.4v in your BIOS will be fine fella, no worries there.
You running Orthos or SP2004 as you realise SP2004 only stresses 1 core at a time?

I'm running stress prime 2004 (Orthos) -> Johnny Lee, Ai-Booster shows activity on both cores though it seems to use core 1 most.

been running 2hrs 30 mins now, no errors and still 56-57c so I think I got it stable with current OC, fingers crossed :D

Once i move the case for better airflow I might give it a little poke back up to 3.56ghz, I would love to reach 3.66ghz that would be a whole GHZ OC'd but I think that might be pushing my luck.

How on earth are people getting a E6300 1.8 GHZ to 3+ ghz ? I guess the only benefit i get is the 4mb cache compared to 2mb , not sure the extra £100 quid was worth it but hey, I got it now so no point in crying over spilt milk, it's only a £100.00 at the end of the day ;)

If anything it's my memory that is shinning thru and well worth the money 800mhz running @ twice its rated speed with cas 4-4-4-12 , that is sweet and cost me £40 more than Crucial 10th Aniversary , bargain if you ask me :D

thanks for everyones input

Happy Xmas 1DMF

EDIT -> oops no I wasn't just checked and it was just SP2004, now running Orthos, lol they were on the same page!

shoot I just started Orthos and my temp shot up to 64c , I think this might be a bad idea!!!

isn't that a bit hot? I'm not clocking it that much am I, surely my Tuniq should be helping, but I cant see it!

Mine reaches 70c sometimes so don't worry

may a mistake in yoru ram calculation m8 :)

the 534mhz is the fsb after the 2:3 divider has been applied. you then double that for ddr2 so your ram ins running at 1068mhz :) 1603.8mhz would have been *** fastest ddr2 in history i think :D

Orthos is going to heat it up more, both cores. Those temps do sounds very high. The cooler is seated properly? I'd consider taking it off, cleaning it, adding some AS5 and reseating. Also, get the airflow sorted man! ASAP! :D

-> you sure, people have said max should be around 60c.

->err spot the noobie - :eek: man I though that seemed to be kicking ass , oh well it's still a nice clock , it might go more if I up the voltage and relax the timings the SPD shows a setting for 533fsb of 5-5-5-15, could try that to push it a bit further.

-> well I cetainly did it up well, though I will admit when applying the thermal paste the missus said "It says a thin Layer" , it's pretty hard to smear as it seems to start going hard on air contact, do you think I apllied too much? isn't a good dollop of thermal paste suppose to help?

I could pull my case out into the middle of the room - cables permitting, and see if lack of air flow is a factor, I was kinda expecting @ 38 on Idle not 46 but i've left the comp on for @ 2 hours now doing nothing and they seems to have dropped to 41, does the temp show higher when it first boots? and for the first hour as it then settles?

my temps are a bit confusing, maybe the Asus bios heat sensor is rubish?

taking the Tuniq off will be a right mare do you think this is the right route to take?

A single line of paste down the middle of the cpu and then a slight twist of the cooler is what Arctic Silver are recommending for the C2D's.

ah, I basically smeared it all over!

however, I've just pulled my case out from under the desk and literaly within 2 mins the cpu temp has dropped to 33/34c fluctuating and the system temp to 29/30c.

Do you think my problem was airflow :confused:

Run it without the side on, in the open. If the temps are dramatically different, it's airflow. If not, I'd reseat, or more extreme, get something lapped.

Edit: yes, in that case get some fans in there.
