Return the 6700 and buy a 6600, cheaper
No I hear ya, I see people here getting 3ghz out of a e6300, I aint pushing much more and I've got a big head start on them @ 2.66, I nearly got a e6600 and then decided nah I'll spend the extra , I can afford it , but I'm not sure it was worth it!
Yeah the memory is pretty sweet though I can't hit the boasted 1200mhz with them, and that would only mean fsb 300 X 10 (3ghz cpu)
I've tried 5-5-5-15 as the SPD shows for pc8500 operation but it won't boot, I'm reluctant to give them more juice as the bios only allow increments of .05v and that seems steep compared to .025 steps for vcore
I have them on max stock setting 2.3v , maybe slacking timmings might help.
What's best slower CPU with faster memory but slacker timings, of faster CPU with slower memory and tighter timings? or is the current settings a good compromise? is it really worth trying to push 1200mhz out of them?
I guess I need to benchmark each setting and see which performs best. whats the best benchmarking tool to use 3DMark ?
What would you do?
as for price i am lucky I bought them through my parents company so didn't pay VAT so they were only £258 inc postage.
