Hey Guys,

I am looking at buying the following components with the view of doing a bit of Oc'ing and wanted some expert opinions on whether you foresee any issues?

Motherboard:Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770K

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 1600 MHZ 2 x 8gb packs

PSU: Corsair AX850 Fully Modular 80W Gold

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E

I am not MASSIVELY in to Oc'ing but was going to aim for around 4.4 to 4.5Mhz and wondered if anyone thinks if I will quite easily achieve this, without temps becoming an issue?

All this will be going in to a Cooler Master 690 II case and was hoping to improve airflow with the modular PSU. And will this be a good upgrade from my Core i7 930 on the Gigabyte X58-UD3R Rev 1.0 with 12gb of Corsair Vengeance. This is currently clocked at 3.8ghz from the stock 2.8.

I am just wanting some opinions please on the above components as they are winging there way to me this week, but if someone really thinks any of the components listed above are a mistake, or I won't see enough of a difference between my current rig and this new one to not warrant an upgrade, then please tell me and I will press the cancel button!!

Many thanks!!!

You can easily hit 4.4-4.5GHz on a Silver Arrow, that thing is a beast.

All of those are solid components, the Gigabyte gets my wholehearted recommendation.

Do you actually need the i7 though? If you're just gaming the i5 3570k would be a better buy.

Hey Guy's,

Many thanks for the comments, you have really put my mind at ease as I have been stung before and spent money needlessly on components that have been overkill LOL!!

I understand that the i5 3570k would probably be more than ideal for my needs, and as far as I am concerned the only game that makes use of the HT currently is Crysis 3, but surely it can be seen as a kind of future proofing at least in that respect?

I have now placed my order and should receive my goods tomorrow. A good friend of mine reckons that the RAM and filling all 4 dimms could affect the memory controller on the chip, and in turn make the system unstable? Is this the case, as he recommended I but the Corsair Vengeance LP Arctic White VLP RAM as it's rated at just 1.35v and not the obligatory 1.5? Can any of you guys offer your thoughts on that please?

Cheer's,

Rick.
