Hi all,
Tried to upgrade RAM from 4gb to 8gb.
To make it more likly to be compatible with my motherboard, I went ahead and purchased the closest thing to what I currently have (no help with current QVL) I chose the same brand but got a slower speed (1333mhz 8gb instead of 1600mhz 4gb that I currently have and that 4gb works)
I installed the new RAM, started PC and it booted first time. I got into Windows, checked CPUZ and it said 8gb. Afterwards, I started Mozilla Firefox and then the computer restarted itself. I realised that I should make everything default in bios, so I made that and the bios screen frozen (that can't be a good sign?)
Since the bios frozen my computer could not start with the new ram in it. It didn't get a display signal on my monitor which is typical for incompatible ram.
This is what i've tried so far:
I tried clear cmos many many times with switch (refered to mobo manual for it)
Removed battery from mobo
used asus clear cmos buttons
used asus MemOK
I tried different gfx card
different monitor
unplugged everything but the gfx card, cpu and ram
tried one ram stick at a time
tried all ram slots individually and as a kit
unplugged every usb
tried different dvi, hdmi, vga cables
Yes my cmos did get cleared but still I could not even post with the new ram installed. It must be faulty ram?
Once I put my old ram back in the computer works fine, what's going on, does anyone have an idea? I mean if the ram is incompatible, why did my computer start the first time
My computer specs are here
