Is this a virus?

i would say yes there is something lurking on your pc.
get your spyware and viruse scanner doing overtime to track it down and destroy it before it damages your system.

thanks do you know of any freeware programs I could run? and that can get rid of the nasties?

It is the PC at work u see.

thanks

download a trial peice of software called malware bytes fully update it and run that. I find it pretty good at removing most unwanted things. Also do a reset on internet explorer and clear out temp files etc.

If you can boot system into safe mode with networking
turn off system restore
log onto trend micro housecall online and run that

ive used that a few times especially when the system wont allow a virus scanner to be installed or loaded properly.

hi guys I do have the right to install programs thank god that took ages to get

I'll try looking for program called malware bytes or spybot search.

You can but it is not recommended
Reason being the programs may start fighting each other causing more annoyance that a popup continually poping up time and time again

if you wanted too you could run seperate realtime protections.

1 virus scanner
1 firewall system
1 spyware system

sometimes they work better that way than an all in one soloution.

o okay i see can you name some spyware programs that have realtime protection? however if you already have lets say NIS2009 do you need a spyware program(realtime)

The one most people know of will be spybot seek and destroy it has a realtime protection built in
Another i believe is ad-aware from lava soft

As they say Google is your freind do a search and im sure it will bring up a large list for you.

Contact your ICT support. Don't go playing yourself. It's there job and they'd be happier to do it than you to try and get it wrong (not sayiing you would, but well)

There are plenty of quite innocent reasons why you could be receiving that message.

I’d completely agree that you should leave this to whoever is responsible for your IT support.
