So my friends thinking about buying a new desktop through a salary sacrifice scheme at this work.

However, he's going to end up spending close to £2200 on it by the end of the 3 year 'contract' and I couldn't help but think that it was a little too much for what the system offers. I couldn't even elaborate on some of the system details for him (mobo manufacturer, CPU cooling etc.)

I've told him I'm more then willing to help him throw one together from scratch but he's a stubborn old goat who can't be bothered with the faff anf the wait.

Here's a link for you guys to have a goosey at.

Yeah I agree. It's a good system, but for the price...

It's the missing details as well. I assume HP prebuilt systems come with a custom board and stock cooling for the CPU?

That is blatant daylight robbery. I'd rather buy a top end laptop for that price and probably be equally as capable in real world situations.

@8 Pack Could do your friend a better rig - custom built im sure for the same price but a whole lot better haha

The issue, I guess, is the up front cost. With the salary sacrifice the money comes off your wages so doesn't 'appear' to be money out of your bank account. Many companies, including mine, do this every year.

Surely buying on finance is no different though. It just means your bank is a conduit between the employer and the retailer.... Just make the payment date to coincide with payday if it's an issue.

You (He) could get a Ryzen R5 1600 and GTX 1080 system for under £1500. Even if he went with an i7 based system it wouldn't be anywhere near £2200. Your friend needs a slap :D

it has a cool sounding title and its a nice case, but the price is typical of branded systems like those, go in to C world you will see it for either similar price or for a bit less then you have the dells attempts, i would buy one if i had the money, wanted a branded system and ready built and everything those companies have to offer support/warranty wise, but thats the lazy approach, id want that case with a better cheaper system inside it ha
