Hi, I have just spec'd a base unit for my friend. Are all the following things compatible? I am unsure about the ram since this is my first time using DDR2 Ram.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80GB ST380215A ATA-100 2MB Cache - OEM

V2-M2V890 Barebones System - AMD Socket AM2

Crucial 1GB (2x512MB) DDR2 PC2-4200C4 Dual Channel Kit

Asus DRW-1608P3S 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - Retail

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.00GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail AMD

Akasa Rounded Ultra ATA133/100/66 IDE Cable (0.45m) - Black Akasa

Thanks,
Mike

They will work together fine but it's better to spend a little more on a PC6400 kit as suggested by AMD for use with all X2s.

the OCUK value 1Gb PC6400 is only 10 quid more.

Also can you not go for a SATA hard drive?

In that case ill get that ram you suggested then.

I have always been a bit confused about sata drives. Are they faster? Are they really needed? The computer im building is only for internet browsing and word processing.

For your use ATA-100 will be more than enough, but if you think that for the same price or less you can easily pick up a 80Gb SATA2 drive then the choice becomes very obvious.
