Next door neighbour has I think.... an S-Max, it's a 2016 looks like a Fiesta on steroids I guess.

She's been complaining the engine warning light is intermittently coming on, and whilst mowing the front lawn I noticed the Ecoboost badge on the back.

I did a DVLA reg check and it says the engine is a 999cc petrol.

So is a 2016 Ford with 1ltr engine with an Ecoboost badge on one of these wet belt time bombs?

Ok cheers guys.

Yea hopefully the engine light is something not sinister, problem is she doesn't have a clue about cars.

Now gotta try and work out how to approach this with her....

But of an update on this.

The car has done 96k miles, and the engine warning light has gone from intermittent to now permanently on.

Next door neighbours are good friends so a bit tricky how to approach it, but the Mrs found various Facebook groups, so basically forwarded those saying have you seen this.

Anyway, turns out they were very grateful, she spoke to her Dad as well who at the first mention of wet belt said get rid of the car, so it wasn't just coming from us.

She bought the car at the start of COVID before used car prices went up, and we buy any car prices they are not actually going to loose too much money on it shifting it on.

So hopefully potential disaster avoided, which is good as they seem to be really unlucky with cars.

Anyway cheers guys.

Might be able to clear it before they inspect it. Sometimes it takes a while for it to reappear :D

If it's a red or flashing engine light though, it's close to dead.

Yup depends.

The Mrs asked if I could do it.

I don't have a particularly good Ford diagnostic tool.

If you can find what sensor it is, sometimes you can either manually close/open the circuit, or some aftermarket devices off eBay etc to fool them but meh, we got on with them, but I'm not that bothered, it's not really my responsibility, it's also a bit naughty.
