My son recently replaced his broken ipod with another, but when he tries to sync. then his music is transferred but is shown on the ipod as "other" and not as music files. Any ideas?

I think from memory itunes will only sync with one ipod. I had a similar problem. Connected another ipod and it wouldn't let me sync, it kept saying I had to erase the new ipod then sync, needless to say I didn't. I opened up the ipod in my computer then copied all the music across ( pain in the bum as the ipod's file system is crazy, had to rename all the songs individually) then erase it then sync it again.

Yes, I think the whole system is somewhat crazy. I have heard of this problem of only syncing with 1 ipod before although I can sync. with my ipod and my "carpod". Is it possible to erase the original ipod settings and start again?

My mate and his wife both have 80Gb iPods (not the new classic one) and they're BOTH sync'd using iTunes on the same computer no problems!...

I've tried to get em to use Winamp (with mlipod.dll like I use) but they're both a pair of Luddite's when it come to these new fangled computer things!!..

Only time they had a problem was when I dumped some music on my mates iPod from winamp on my computer... iTunes nicely wiped the new music for him the next time he Sync'd on his...

i don't have an ipod because of that

maybe with rockbox firmware you can do it..

rockbox.org, makes any player that it supports a lot better imo :) (not sure if it removes the need for itunes)

ahh

As for my tuppence on the ridiculous Rockbox argument: I have it installed on my 4G iPod for one reason only- drag and drop functionality. I believe that the SQ is also a little improved too, and I can set a much higher volume than the standard firmware, but that's it. The array of extra games and apps that comes with it is ridiculous, I deleted them straight away.
