Is this an MOT failure?

A bus clipped my drivers side wing mirror, result is plasic is smashed and glass is smashed.

Unluckily i have an MOT at the end of the week and wont have enough time to sort out my mirror.

If i put a plasic film over the smashed mirror will it still pass the MOT, and also i can not move the mirror from inside using the electrics due to the smash, will this also fail the MOT because i cannot move the mirror?

Leave the broken glass in, got a motorfactors and get a replacement mirror glass, it will stick on the old glass.
If the plastic is smashed and has any sharp bits it will fail an MOT iirc.

Wrong

You only need to have ONE mirror to pass an MOT but it must be on the drivers side! You dont even have to have a Rear View (interior) mirror.

As yours is the drivers side you'll have to get it sorted!

That not what my understanding was, I thught you had to have the one inside and that was it? :confused:

Well the interior is not a susprise as a lot of vans have rear bulkheads
I will ask the mot tester on monday but im pretty sure you need two mirrors
At the end of the day it's down to the discression of the tester

Just stick some glass over for now and it'll be ok. I dont think they'll fail you on adjustment

Most cars ONLY ever had ONE wing mirror on the drivers side. Vauxhall Nova upto 1988, Ford Fiesta, VW

You only need ONE dam friggin' mirror as long as you have an interior mirror too!

But then what the hell do I know, lets just ask the actual MOT guidelines...

Its the word 'OR' not 'and' that appears in the Actual Ministry Of Transports website!

Passenger vehicles with more than 7 passenger seats of any age, and all passenger vehicles first used on or after I August 1978 (not being a minibus as above), must have two mirrors, one of which must be option 'a'.

You need two mirrors unless your car was driven before 1st Aug 78? One has to be drivers side, the other can be interior or passenger side...

simple to fix.

Go to Halfords. Buy replacement stick on mirror. Stick it over the smashed one.

Then replace the whole thing if you need to.

So what you are saying is that cerebus is 100% correct then? So why the rolleyes?
 
as said above only requirement for an MOT is drivers side wing mirror,

I know someone who have not had the interior mirror attached yet past MOT
& someone who's can passed with only a drivers side mirror.
