Hi guy's looking into getting my first pc for gaming. I currently own a ps4 so want it to be a fair bit better to that. Budget of £700 max.

You cant link to competitors, better remove the link.

You can list the specs and ask an opinion on those, but not the price.

Hello and welcome, have a read of the FAQ buddy, no competitor talk :) so remove the link

But that's not a bad PC someone will build you one around something similar, I would but I'm on my iPad.

How much you looking to spend? Do you need an OS, monitor etc?

Are these any good?

Case : CORSAIR CARBIDE SPEC-01 CASE
Power Supply : COOLERMASTER 600 WATT PSU With Power Cable Supplied
Motherboard : GIGABYTE H81M-S2H USB3 10/1000 LAN PORT WITH HD AUDIO
CPU : Intel I7 4th Gen 4790 Quad Core CPU 3.6Ghz (4Ghz Turbo)
8gb DDR3 1600mhz Gaming Memory
Graphics Card : GEFORCE 970 GTX 4GB DDR5 MULTIPLE OUTPUTS

Sorry I have a hard time seeing an i7 fitting in your budget, however you don't need it for gaming, an i5 would be just as good.

Actually I just had a go:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97MX Gaming 5 - Devil's Canyon i5 4690K CPU & Micro ATX Motherboard Bundle **£10 Saving** £289.98
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 WindForce OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (GV-N970WF3OC-4GD) £259.99

1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £58.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLRED38G2400HC11CDC01) £47.99

Total : £861.52 (includes shipping : £8.00 Ex.VAT).

Even an i5 and 970 is over your budget. I went for the K edition because you can overclock for more power later. Can you increase the budget? You could drop the SSD but it would be a big general use performance hit.

The above would be out perform a ps4. You could cut the SSD, and perhaps add another later. With a cheaper mobo you just about get there, don't expect to be overclocking later though:

Theres £10 difference between the K and nonK processor so getting the K would have better resale value. You could also get a cheaper PSU but the EVGA G2 is very good with a 7 year warranty. The very cheap PSUs are not worth it.

So is it important to get a k processor? Will I need it to be overclocked? Would a i7 4790 perform better than an i5 4690k?

As said, a k processor gives you the option to overclock, doesn't cost much more and will be worth more when you sell it. Over clocking is fun, and will help a bit on some games, but at stock speeds it's already very fast, so overc locking is not needed, you will be able to play every game just fine at stock speeds for a fair while.

All these processor have multipliers, the number of the multiplier is what sets the clock speed of the processor. The K series multiplier is unlocked, all others are locked, this means on the K you can increase the speed by increasing the multiplier. There is more to it than that but not a great deal more to know to get you started.

If later you found yourself wanting more power then without the K series you would have to do another full upgrade, with the K series its just a case of getting a better cooler and cranking it up. My i7 is currently running at 4.4Ghz from a stock of 3.4, which gave me enough more to carry on running the same hardware for years now.

There are also countless guides on how to overclock. If it was my money I would spend the extra on the better motherboard for future fun times.

We all also forgot to ask, do you need an OS?

Thanks for explaining that buddy. So would a stock i7 4790 be better than a fully over clocked i5 4690k?

No os needed, widows 8 would go on.

Hi guys what if I up the budget to say 800.

Also would I be better to just get a ssd drive to start then add a 2tb later. I'll only be playing 1 game to begin with. Saves installing the op twice and games etc. Thx.

Have a look at the case, its on offer and I really like but. But I would read a couple of reviews first to be sure as I don't know the brand. This is basically what I specced before but without the HDD.

Also no optical drive, I don't have one in any of my machines anymore but will you need one. You can install windows off a USB.
