Hi guys,

I have seen a computer on popular site, not sure on the rules of posting names of other sites but for these purposes we will call it rumtree ;).

These are the specs:

Intel QX6700 Extreme Quad Core Processor 2.66Ghz

FoxConn Black Ops Motherboard

8GB DDR3 Corsair RAM

Radeon HD 5770 1GB GPU

1TB HDD

Corsair 550w PSU

Corsair CM690 2 Case

I will be getting all of this + monitor, keyboard and mouse for £200

Is this a good deal?, how upgradeable is it in terms of GPU etc?

Will it be good for mid range gaming as it stands?

Thanks for any help :)

£200 is a very good deal for that system. You are only a GPU upgrade away from playing recent titles on high/max settings. Only other upgrade I would look to make would be addition of an SSD.

7950 = £230ish - add this and you'll max out most recent titles.
SSD = £80ish

As it stands though, in answer to your question, that'll play recent titles on medium type settings, yes. So absolutely a good deal to be had for £200 if it's all in legit/decnet condition of course and not been abused.

great guns, i havent told the seller if im definitely buying it or not. Wanted to see what everyone thought of it.

I was planning on adding maybe the hd 7750 and maybe a 60gb SSD for boot/program files and using the 1TB 7,200 RPM HDD already fitted for everything else.

Is this going to be a good processor after all of the years it has been out?

That was a hefty processor in its day man. It is a good few years old now but I would certainly be happy enough to run that chip for another few years if I had one before looking to upgrade. Just Google the spec's (and price) of that processor from a few years back :p

If I was you I would try and strech a bit more to 7870, it's a bit annoying with cards just now the price "ranges" come so close it's hard to resist the "next one up" so to speak.

SSD for OS/apps definitely and the 1TB for your data. Although splash out on a 128 at least, I went through same thought process not so long ago thinking a 60gb would do (in reality it seems it will) but you soon be suprised at a 128's usage especially if using for gaming in this day and age.... of top of my head for example, BF3 with expansions = 25GB or so I think.... mental.

Sounds good for me the price tag back in the day was Huge! haha.

Yeah ill stretch to them both, no point in going for something that wont be as good for that little price difference. I havent seen any reviews recently with anyone still using the processor so cant really compare it to anything :/
