My current build was purchased in 2011, is this build actually any good:

· CPU: Intel Core i7 2600k 3.4GHz Socket 1155 8MB Cache (Sandy bridge)
· Motherboard: Asus P8P67 Pro R3 P67 Socket 1155 8 Channel HD Audio ATX
· Internal Memory: Corsair 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz/PC3-12800 XMS3
· GPU: Asus GTX 550 Ti 1GB GDDR5 VGA DVI HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card
· Boot Drive: OCZ 120GB Vertex 2E SSD 2.5" SATA-II Read = 285MB/s, Write = 275MB/s 50,000 IOPS
· Storage Drive: 2 x WD 1TB 3.5" SATA-III 6Gb/s Caviar Black Hard Drive - 7200rpm 64MB Cache
· Drive: LG BH10LS30 10x BD-RE with DVD±RW SATA Blu-Ray Drive
· Case: Fractal Design Define R3 Black Pearl Case
· Power Supply: Be Quiet 530W Pure Power PSU

Also, what do you guys actually do with old computers?

CPU wise it was still good for example five years ago, but now really low end.
Just for measure next-gen consoles will bring over twice the CPU power into mainstream as base level for next-gen games.

Again that graphics card was very low end already five years ago and is archean by now.

If you could add another 8GB of RAM for cheap, pop in a second hand RX570 or RX580 for £60-80 and OC the CPU, it'd still manage decently at 1080P with most games.

It is showing its age though, with the above upgrades you'd probably get another year or two of gaming out of it with reduced settings.

MY question is what do you guys normally do with old computers? Eventually bin them?

Take out all the decent parts and save them for future budget / project builds. End up with 10 boxes full of parts that I never use :)

It really depends on what you need or feel like doing. Build a media PC and attach to your TV? Build a NAS box? Retro gaming rig? There are lots of websites with project ideas that might appeal.

Depends on what's in them! some items are considered unique in some way and are still actively sought by purists and tech heads looking for certain kicks from a build (My old chip and board are selling for more than I paid for them 5 years ago!!). Generally I like to keep 2 machines running and use a sort of "Hand me down" approach with parts (Where compatible)
