This build is mainly for todays games.

I'm looking into upgrading from my AMD 6400+ Dual Core and GeForce 8800 Ultra to this setup ...... is all this fully compatible ?

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
MSI 790FX-GD70 AMD 790FX (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Triple Channel (TR3X6G1333C9)
BFG GeForce GTX 295 1792MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

I'm also looking into putting in one of these ........
OCZ Vertex Series 250GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (OCZSSD2-1VTX250G)

would i benefit one of these SSD's for gaming or should i just stick with a Western Digital VelociRaptor ?

Looks ok, except I hope you dont plan to be running that memory in triple channel on an AM3 motherboard :)

EDIT: In an effort to make this post useful, IIRC none of the AM3 boards support triple channel mode, so if you want to run the memory like that, either go intel or browse dual channel options..

for psu id use this one

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-004-PP
should be enough. and you may want to get 8 gb of ram if you are using a 64 bit OS. if not stick with what you have. if you do go for 8 gb stay withe the same type. just buy more. it is good ram. however there is this

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-167-OC

wich is almost exactly the same but runs at lower volatges. and is the same price

ok will take your advice and will get the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad-Crossfire PCI-E 750W Power Supply and will stick with the corsair memory and will order 2 lots to make it 8 gb :)
