I’m looking at upgrading, but this seems so overpriced. £1,304.92 for just an i7. What do you guys think of it? I have a 1080 which I already own, i am also going to add a NVMe 1TB later down the line.

That just seems so much, the RAM has really upped the cost. I do a bit on archiCAD, photoshop and a bit of video editing.

Is 64GB overkill for the i7? What about the MHz, I read MHz doesn’t actually change anything anymore?

For the stuff you do on ArchiCAD, Photoshop and Video Editing would you not be better suited to possibly looking into Ryzen?

If you do, then MHz does really matter a fair amount more, but with Intel, anything 2400+ I'd say isn't very noticeable.

@Space Monkey , OP has 2x 32gb kits, hence the £1300 cost.

@WhereHere1 to save a few bob:
  • you get free shipping anyway, so could save £20 getting the OEM processor (but ofc its 1 year warranty vs 3 years - if that matters much to you)
  • also cheaper ram - sure its slightly slower (3000 vs 3200) and only has white LED vs RGB, but intel platforms are not as sensitive to ram timings/speeds so the performance loss is literally negligble outside of benchmarks. and a saving of £90 per kit is nothing to be sniffed at
  • cheaper board, but arguably better VRM cooling - which is needed for sustained high intensity workloads. gigabyte boards this round have VRM cooling issues. granted that their UK based support is good, but ideally you'd want to get a board that's good enough not to rely on that support lol

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,066.46 (includes shipping: £10.50)
