Is this build okay?

Bare in mind, this is my first PC and it's just to give me something to start off with and get the feel of PC gaming before i buy higher GPU's and CPUS

Any input would be great :)

looks ok but would probably change the psu for something better. Maybe an evga or superflower or an antec or xfx are all better than that corsair. And can be bought for a similar price. and doing a quick search the gtx 1060 seems to beat the 970 in most benchmarks I have seen...here is a link to one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufnJ4tMA8KE

But is there not a fair price difference between them, Im getting the 970 preowned so it knocks abit off the price, but its basically busted my bank for this month :(

the better psu is £13 more than the corsair and much better quality. the 1060 is cheaper than the 970 so should save a bit.

looking at the reviews on the ocuk site people are very happy with the 1060 i linked.

Why are you getting a 970? Get an RX 480 instead. Cheaper, slightly more powerful, more usable RAM. Better card. GTX 1060 is also a great option.

You will need a heatsink for that CPU. Get a hyper 212. It'll be fine.

The build above is decent except I would change the power supply.

Something around 700 watts and modular will be more future proof and save you money in the long run and modular is always better for ease of build/cable management.

Non-modular can save money and won't be an issue in a case like that one with a PSU compartment. So it's not always better. Sometimes modular is pointless.

550W is more than enough unless OP was going to SLI with Nvidia cards. And if so, he would need a different motherboard as that one doesn't do SLI.

"700W and modular" without specifying brand and model, could land someone a PSU with cheap components, crap warranty, and less wattage available on the all-important 12v rail/s than a good 500W PSU.

Lol...I'm not suggesting he goes out and buys any old 700w psu. He's a big boy he can look up some good ones if he wishes.

His second post says "Bare in mind, this is my first PC and it's just to give me something to start off with and get the feel of PC gaming before i buy higher GPU's and CPUS" which to me suggests future expansion and i'd rather have 700w.

Modular sometimes being pointless? ok...that's your opinion. My opinion is that it's easier to build with in all situations. Anyway was just a suggestion in view of his second post about expansion, didn't mean to upset you by suggesting one difference in your build :)

It's just facts. When someone points out facts, it doesn't mean they are upset with you. Don't take it personally, or as an attempt to argue opinions. It's just meant to help clear some things up.

Here's another example - Bitfenix themselves recommend non-modular for their Prodigy ITX case. So it's simply a fact that modular doesn't always mean better. Even though in most cases it may. And in this case, with that CoolerMaster case, it won't be of any benefit at all. That shouldn't be hard to understand even if you like your opinions.

P.S. Some people still make the mistake of purchasing a shoddy PSU because they read to "get XXX watts". If OP knew enough about current PSUs, he would not have specced a CX600 for this type of build.

Hope this helps.

A single GPU doesn't need 700W though, so unless he plans on dual cards in the future he only needs 550W.

To be honest with the way GPUs are going (150W TDP), 550W would probably be enough to power dual GPUs as well as long as its a good quality one.
