Hello Bengaboy, if you don't mind, could you possibly post a link to the Coolermaster's website of the Coolermaster EXtreme Power Plus 550W Power Supply Unit please. I am just having trouble locating that specific model on their website.

I can locate the "Plus" series on their website but their highest wattage unit for the "Plus" series only seems to be 500 watts.

Thank you. :)

Hi Fire Wizard, but I didnt see it on the coolermaster website - I seen it on a competitors website, and I of course cannot link you to it due to the fear of the dons ramming said PSU up my anoos :)

Thanks very much shr3k.

Hello Bengaboy, I believe this here is the power supply unit you are referring too, as shr3k has already stated. This particular unit is a dual rail unit with each rail being able to deliver up to 16 amps. Now, since you can't load up both rails to to their maximum simultaneously, you have a power supply unit that will be able to deliver less than 30 amps on the 12 volt rail. (I do apologise for not being able to give an exact 12 volt rail rating for this particular power supply unit - I can't seem to find any relevant information regarding this)

Now, based on the above, you would actually be far better of purchasing a power supply unit such as the Corsair VX 450W ATX PSU which is able to deliver 33 amps on the 12 volt rail. It's an extremely impressive unit and you honestly can't go wrong by purchasing one.

In regards to the case that you have mentioned. Have a look at this review here by Anandtech. :)

Hello Bengaboy, without knowing the exact amount of amps that the Coolermaster Extreme Power Plus 550W Power Supply Unit can supply on the 12 volt rail, it's going to be slightly difficult to know what sort of system you can safely run of that specific unit. Though, since Coolermaster make reasonable power supplies, I would imagine that the 12 volt rail will be able to supply at least 25 amps. So, with that figure in mind, you should be able to run a Quad Core at stock with a graphics processing unit such as the Nvidia 8800GT and with a couple of hard drives absolutely fine on that particular unit.

However, please note that the above is a rough estimate in terms of how much the Coolermaster power supply unit can provide. I have had a good look around the internet but I can't seem to find any kind of information that provides details on how much the 12 volt rail of the Coolermaster power supply can provide, sorry.

Now, since I am not 100 percent certain on the Coolermaster power supply, I would personally look at the Corsair VX 450W ATX PSU. It will be able to handle an overclocked Q6600, a Nvidia 8800 GTX and a couple of hard drives quite comfortably. :)

Hello Bengaboy, I'm afraid I can't, sorry. :( This has been bugging me for ages now, I can't seem to find any reputable sources that discuss the 12 volt rail ratings of your particular power supply.

If anyone that comes across this thread and knows a bit about the Coolermaster Extreme Power Plus 550W Power Supply Unit, it would be great if you could post and help Bengaboy out, thanks. :)
