58c idle and can reach from 72 - 78c on orthos stress test.In game its usally about 68c.

Right now i am having bad performance issues on a high end pc.Could this temperature be effecting my performance?

Using q6600 "go" @ 2.4ghz.
Tuniq tower cpu cooler.
Ambient temp , medium (No aircon).

Shall i re-seat my tuniq tower and apply a new thermal paste?

Off topic question - Is a psu fitted upside down bad?

As you can see the sticker indicating the voltage is showing the words upside down.

That is definitely to warm, especially for TT and at stock, like you mentioned try doing a reseat and see what happens.
What thermal paste are you using?

Your PSU does it have a fan at the other end or does it have a larger fan on the side

I would as the above poster says and reseat it, as for applying thermal paste, I use AS5 and used Admiral Huddy's method for applying the paste:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17800415

At idle I get between 32C - 38C depending on the time of the day, ambient temperature and time of the year, when doing the Intel Burn Test last Sunday, it topped out at 72C on full load for an hour.

As for the TT, I have my fan set at 1700RPM, this speed seems to be the best for me,any higher it is too noisy and does not make any apparant difference.

Fan is spinning full.I dont mind noise since im used to it very much.
Do the temps i have decrease my performance?i hope that i fix this problem with re-seating the heatsink.
I did not fit the HS.I think its using the stock thermal paste.

The psu only has the front fan as shown in the pic. There is no other fans fitted with the psu.Is it still bad that my psu is upside down?

This is the powersupply i am using.

If your not blocking any air vents then personaly I would leave it as is.

Your CPU will start to throttle if it gets to warm to protect its self.

It probably wont throttle at those temps but having it run that hot for a while may decrease the lifespan of the cpu, also could end up heating up other components if you have insufficient case cooling.

Damn. Then what the hell is up with my pc.Formated my pc using vista, driver updates, windows updated everything up to date.

I lag in Age of empires 3 with a 9800gtx,q6600,4gb ram at full graphics (1680xres).Its not normal at all.I also lag in other games like Aoc and grid.

Try running 3D Winmark 2006 or Vantage to check your performance.
Also download GPU-Z to ensure your GPU is running at 16x.

If I was you, I would reseat the TT, cleaning the CPU and TT properly, if feeling brave you could lap the CPU and TT to make the surfaces perfectly flat (I have yet to have this pleasure as the thought of "sanding" my CPU scares the sh!t outta me..... :D )

Also look at how many processes you have running when you load the game up, remove/stop the unnecessary start up programs and services, I found lots of help on these sites when I first put Vista on my laptop and deciding which services to stop etc.....

(Apologies for the link if it breaks any forum rules, I dont think it does.... but just in case)

Hope the links help you out. ;)

If reseating doesn't help, I'd agree with Tomc@T above, and strongly recommend lapping at least the base of the heatsink, ideally both the cpu and the heatsink.

take an hour or so to do both. well worth it.

hth, :).

Il go buy a thermal paste tommorow or so and see if the problem persists.

I mainly running 58 processes. There is barley any cpu usage and ram sits at about 1.0 - 1.1 gb without playing a game.Processes while in game should not be the problem i have.

I was running some tests and saw that while playing age of conan my gpu temps got up to 72-75 deg while gaming. In the tests i was always running at 20fps so it seemed like the system was stressed.I think a q6600,9800gtx,4gb ram should run age of conan at over 50fps on full graphics right?

Kk il try that thermal paste.

Any1 got some information the question i aske about game performance and graphic card?

I have been having this problem for long but i can not seem to grasp where the problem is comming from.

For now im suspecting my cpu mostly then my graphics card.As last resort i will install xp 64bit.

Thank you for your help.

The temps seem fine, I am assuming that you are not using 3rd party coolers on the VGA card? My GTX8800 gets to around 70-72 while playing COD4, and I get around 90 FPS while playing.

Not played Conan, so I cant comment, but I would hope for more than 50 FPS, but I dont really know the answer to that as every game is different.

Very occasionally when I boot, my CPU overclock "forgets" to overclock! and shows as 2.4Ghz, I only notice because my FPS on COD4 drops to about 60FPS from 90..... so if you sort you temperatures, then you will be in a position to overclock your CPU which should help with your gaming FPS some too.

Also have a look at Rivatuner for overclocking your GPU too....

As last resort i will install xp 64bit.[

This is what I currently use on my main PC... not had any issues with it, just too tight to upgrade to Vista 64 atm! :p

No overclocks on the gpu. 100percent fan.No thrid party healer.

I have Eist disable so the cpu does not underclock and overclock it always stays at 2.4ghz.

Damn i wish this problem was easy to solve but the more i think the more i come up with problems lol.Need a beer really quick.

Il try fix my cpu tommorow and then come report back.

Went to the tech shop and had a really long talk.We re-seated the cpu cooler and put on some new paste.

Crashes seem to no longer happend and on a stress test the max temeprature i have seen was 70 deg.Fine for me considering the ambient temperature i have and the small case.

The problem of me getting low performance still persists.I have done a lot of reaserch.Saw guys on youtube doing css fps tests with the same system specs and they all got like 80fps more then me with the same everything.

My drive is virus free since i formatted like 4 days ago now.

The only two things that could be degrading my performance are:
Vista - If its this i am going to say a big "f*ck" microsoft outloud.
Faulty video card - I will just e-mail bfg and explain my problems (politley).

Well,on to format xp64bit or xp32bit if the 64bit does not work.Wish me luck, loots of happiness and 2 bottles of beer.

I do not know what the hell is wrong with my computer.

Installed xp 32bit and the performance problem still persists.
When i do a css benchmark test on full graphics and 1680 resolution i only get 175 (used to get 155 with vista).People on youtube with the same system as mine where getting 240+.

The temps when benchmarking where 61 for the gpu and 60 for the cpu.
Do you think that my card could be faulty?

Its a bfg so i have lifetime warranty.
