Hey,

Many of you know just how dire my PC is by now, and how badly I want to upgrade it.

However, short of it dying I can't see that happening, as despite it being my money I'm not allowed to upgrade as "my PC is fine for what I use it for" - a complete joke.

So, is it desperate for me to be looking for a way to take out, say the cpu and not harming gpu/ram/hdd/psu so can re-use/sell?

If it isn't, any ideas how to go about it?

Cookeh

:p

Take out as in kill?

bump the cpu voltage up and fry it.

stop the heatsink fan from rotating.

It's your money therefore you should do what you want with it. There is no need to 'break' anything.

Aye.

I had it at 1.8 for a while (read up on SNDS or w/e initals are) which should have killed it, but nope - PC just bluescreened doing anything, temps weren't even significantly higher

I agree entirely.

However, I don't have parents permission, therefore can't.

Ah well, perhaps on Tues I can argue the point better (18 then :p)

Unfortunately they'd notice a lack of a PC whilst I spent weeks trying to sell the bugger :D

Oh dear, man up!! :D  (assume your the male variety)

What ever you do don't flip the 110v switch on the psu, goes with a nice big bang!

Because that won't kill rest of system and current PSU and case is less than 9 months old :p

I would want to recycle hdds/case/psu, sell graphics card and ram.

Also, that's 3 ninja edits I've caught on quote in one day  lmao.

Just leave the case there? Send all sold parts at the same time, put new parts in. wayhay.

Just be straight with them or make some kind of legit-ish excuse. I told my parents that I needed it for my computer based coursework. My sister was having none of it but seriously what can one do with 1.8GHz Celeron and 256MB of RAM and onboard graphics of 10 years ago.

Just unplug your CPU fan and run prime all night. Ought to do it. Or just buy the new stuff, when it arrives install it quietly and sell the extras.

take one 20/24 pin atx connector take your pick of one red and one yellow wire and swap them around, press the power button and say goodbye to your current mobo.

On a side note you do need to man up, if you can't sneak upgrades in past parents you'll never have upgrades when you find yourself a lady

I like this one. Do you have a job? If you save some money it won't take long to upgrade if your setup is as dire as you claim.

I have a job, I can earn £100 a day in a shift. I have over £450. Money is no issue.

I'd be looking to spend £300 max, and already have system lined up.

Ah, none of you know my parents. Last time I bought a new part without permission it was returned. Last time I made a fuss over new PC, it was nearly scrapped.

Parents are obtuse and ignorant at times. RE sneaking in, its a bit hard when I'm at school on the days that items are delivered :p

how clued up are they about computers? just take the ram out or something? or just take the cpu out no need to kill it , just an extra thing to sell on when the time comes

Somehow, I always used to plan deliveries for days in half-term or something. Of course if one of your parents is home then that won't work.
