Hi there,

My gf whos in Canada at the moment, is getting DLS/Cable installed into her flat.. but the thing is, I don't know if its actually cable or actual DSL. Does the DSL over there differ to our DSL over here? Same with Cable?

Right, if one of you doesnt mind takin the time to have a look, could you just check out http://www.bell.ca/shop/ , click on internet and then Basic Lite, from the side list...

She needs to connect 2 computers to the Internet. Can someone help me pick out the correct kinda router she would need for it?

Bit of a tricky one this..

A telephone jack should be located within reach of your computer (a 6 ft teledapt cord is provided in the kit). If the jack is beyond the 6 ft cabling provided, you have several options:
- Move the computer closer to the jack.
- Install a jack closer to the computer. This can be initiated through the Bell Business office at 310-BELL where a service charge will apply, or you can contract an outside vendor

So telephone = DSL

Does she need a router? Well does she have more than 1 computer she wants to connect to the internet only you can answer that..

DSL is cable :P ADSL is over phone lines. DSL means digital subsciber line, which Cable is technically as it's always on broadband and you pay monthly rates for it.
ADSL is the same tech all over the world. only things that differ are things like MTU numbers and localised phone issues like length of local loop. An ADSL router is an ADSL router wherever it is.

DSL is nothing really, it's a whole range of different technologies.

Shouldn't have an issue with an ADSL router though, if they're using ADSL (no guarantee they aren't using some variant, eg ADSL2+).
The simple answer is to phone them and ask :p

If you mean an ADSL (DSL) router it should work as they use Annex A as is used in the UK. In some European countries -Germany in particular they use Annex B.
Naturally yer gash router will work and set up as per OS
