Is this enforceable?

I've been wondering...

I'm currently a student at Loughborough Uni, and around on a lot of the roads surrounding the uni are signs that say "No University Parking on Street" (Like this) But I've always wondered if they're legally enforceable by anyone. I always assumed it's the Uni that put them up, as if it was the council, they would have just made the road permit parking only (like they have in most of the town centre roads), so that made me think it's the Uni trying to prevent anyone at the Uni not paying the ridiculous parking charges by parking on public roads.

So, what do you reckon? Legally enforceable, or just the Uni scaremongering?

no uni parking probably doesnt mean much. The No parking/waiting right next to it does, though!

Yea, the one underneath does, but seeing as only one side of the road has the single yellow line, the other side is fair game.

See the 'only for access' sign on the entry to that street - that means you'll get a council ticket.

The little sign that mentions university is just some busy-body,

I didn't actually look at the beginning of the street, so didn't notice if it had an "only for access" sign. It's not just that road that has them though, there are various others, some of which I know don't have access only signs.

Loughborough Uni, just park on corners and in the middle of nowhere, thats the done thing isnt it? Lol

That is very true! I've seen so many people park on verges & double yellows at the unmanned gates onto campus (there's at least 1 car every day during the week) and I think I've only ever once seen the cars with tickets.

Why don't you just pay for campus parking? I did when I was at Loughborough - it was more convenient.

However from Ashleigh road it's a short walk or cycle to the campus.

Heck I used to walk from Oxford St in town. It's not far.

Well, according to their fees, I wouldn't be able to get a permit anyway, as I'm in LE11, and even if they did, I have no intention of spending over £200 to be able to park there!

I can't either, if the car is parked legally, you've just as much right to park as anyone, assuming the car is parked legally and there are no formal restrictions in place, such as permit holders, I would even go so far as to say it's discrimination.

Also though, it might just be the first step before the local council enforce residents permits etc. due to complaints from locals if its causing a real problem.

EDIT the yellow sign looks legit, but the blue one looks like a home brew job from a ****** off local, so don't be surprised if you get keyed/vandalised etc.

The blue signs are on quite a few surrounding roads, so it's not just a local, but the yellow looks official, and as there's a single yellow line down that side of the road, I believe it, but as far as I'm concerned, the other side should be fair game tbh.
