Is this frequency my "core" / "boost" frequency?

Hey guys,

Just played a few games of golf at 4K and the system running well..

It does get quite loud and I have set the fan curve for them to be quite agressive (dont really mind as I use my headset when gaming 90% of the time)..

But upon exiting the game I checked my GPU "vitals" and there was a reading, peak of 1890mhz..?

If someone can clarify for me what it is running at the peak 1890mhz woul dbe greatly appreciated.

Yes, that's the frequency that the GPU core itself is running at. With Nvidia cards it's adjusted automatically by GPU Boost based on load, as well as power and thermal limits. You can raise the cap it'll hit by adding an offset with the core clock function there. You can start by leaving a benchmark like Heaven looping in the background, then adding +25MHz or so and bumping it up in increments until you find your limit. Then maybe dial it down another 25MHz too just to be sure you're stable. There's really no need to touch voltage on them either, at least with air cooling. It usually just means you bump into the power limit faster. The good thing is that not having to touch voltage means it doesn't really increase your power consumption or cooling requirements, so it's essentially free performance.

Thanks for the reply, I am looking to leave at stock for now. The reason I was asking is that seems to be boosting a lot higher than the card specifications?

Yeah, you won't see an Nvidia card running at its base frequency, or usually even its stated boost frequency, unless it's throttling (hitting the power limit or getting too hot) or doing something that doesn't demand it clock up (if you set a framerate cap on a game or it just isn't demanding). They'll boost as high as they can automatically until hitting one of those limiting factors. Essentially auto-overclocking, the same as Ryzen CPUs and AMD's latest GPUs also do. Most things run a lot closer to their limits right out of the box than they used to.
 
Yeh Aretak's spot on, it's perfectly normal and safe. Mine maxes at 1920Mhz at stock, which is good enough. I don't go for graphics card overclocking, CPU overclocking always made a far bigger difference.

But yours is fine, it's where it's supposed to be. In terms of fan curve, monitor the temperatures, you might be able to dial that back a bit of you want a bit more quietness. If your case cooling is good, you might get away with it. I have a full tower with 9 x 120mm fans, air moves well in there so the graphics card and CPU are both maxing at 65C when gaming, which is great and very silent. But if I had a smaller case, I'd have no issue with either of them running at 75C as that's still safe and okay for both CPU and GPU in my book. Check your temps, you might be able to quieten the fans a little.
 
If you ever do want extra MHz you’re better off undervolting using the curve. Should be able to get close to 2000mhz at exactly 1v
 
Thanks guys, whats the best / simplist way to be undervolting this card? I could do with it being a little quieter, performance wise im very happy with it.
