That is currently THE BEST monitor in that price range. 1000:1 is fine, most TN panels (the ones that advertise 40000:1 + dynamic contrast) are likely 800-1000:1 static contrast ratio too. The much larger numbers are "dynamic" contrast and are basically gamed for the test. Anyway, its meaningless, contrast ratio does not indicate a good monitor. A good monitor has high image quality, wide viewing angles, good response/input lag times and good connectivity and stand. Based on these criteria, the HP wins, with the Dell 2408WFP a close second.

ok so that dell one looks excellent but the 6ms would that be ok for gaming as some are sayin like 2 and 3 ms ...also are you saying some monitors dont do what they say on the tin thanks.

Again, response time is pretty meaningless these days. You simply cannot notice the difference between 8ms response and 2ms - it just too fast, so no reason to stress over.

The "issue" about that dell is relatively high input lag. It is among the highest of all monitors out today, which would suggest it is poop at gaming. However, I have been gaming on one for over a year, the picture is awesome and I have not detected any lag. Here is a quick test (summarised conclusion: don't worry about it).

Like cmndr_andi I have a Dell 2408WFP A01 monitor and can't see what all the fuss is about with regards to input lag. The A01 revision may have improved it but I don't notice it at all in gaming or general use.

This Dell has one of the best monitor pictures I've seen and Dells replace service is one of the best. Currently got mine in portrait mode for the forums.

After looking at a few review of that large TN monitor i concluded: Its big and cheaper, but it is truly a case of quantity over quality. The image quality and viewing angles simply pale in comparison to the HP LP2475W or Dell 2408WFP.

ahh thankks on to it now....i mainly play games so its sayin TN panel is best for me then but those 2 monitors you guys have recomended are good ips ones

The dell is actually a PVA, but to be honest I have no problems recommending a non-TN planel for gaming. Many have excellent response times and a lot of the input lag problems that you hear with screens like the Dell is people who don't own the screens just recycling what they've read elsewhere.

Try www.tftcentral.co.uk for some reviews, I'm sure with your budget you could find a good 24" non-TN panel that's good for gaming. That site also has a panel checker, so you can see what panel is inside the monitors that you like price wise.

The response time is the only thing that's better with TNs. EVERYTHING ELSE is better with non-TNs. Anyway, the monitors we recommended are fine for response time and look amazing in games (and everything else).
