Is this normal for a psu tester

The -5V light is OK as they dropped the -5V rail from PSU's.
The PG light stands for "Power Good" but I can't tell you any more than that.

I always use a DMM.
 
Looks like your psu is faulty as there is no PG signal.
The PG or power good tells the motherboard that all is ok on the psu side and the motherboard can power up now else without the PG signal the motherboard will be stuck in a boot loop cause as it will continously reset the processor.
Prolly just leaky caps in the psu.

ahh now that would make sense re the boot loop as thats what its been doing constantly restarting

quite odd as its a brand new corsair 650w 80+ model but i guess it can happen regardless

appreciate your input guys
 
its also giving out a long high pitch beep which cant be good

sorry for the newbie question but was given the tester by a buddie and tbh i wasnt sure what the pg stood for

I use the lcd version and the beep is because you have no 8pin connected.
