Hi all sorry if I rant on.

I placed an order for a bundle deal on the 4th January and waited a few days no delivery and I sent a web note only to be told the items I ordered are out of stock:( great thanks for not letting me know.

So the next day I looked on online and got all the stock codes and such for the items I would replace with so when I call up it would make easy on the person to do a qiuck change and that went fine.

Today I get my Pre built and configured OC bundle but it's not what I thought it would be.
The cpu cooler is not attached and new in the box it looks like.
And cpu itself just looks a mess and needs cleaning :(

Is this normal? I don't think so.
It's not what the I thought I was getting.

Why Should You Buy This Bundle?

- Pre built and configured - Built by our expert technicians and tested to ensure maximum stability, this means all you have to do when you get the bundle is simply plug and play!

£670 I spent and it be going back I think.

Looks like it's been tested to me, as per the advert. Although I will admit they could have cleaned the thermal paste off a bit better. The cooler being new and in the box is expected, they'd have used a test cooler to get the overclock stable.

I'd just clean it off and install if it was me..

But I bought that bundle so I did not have to mess about with anything :(
I was not sure if the cpu cooler was meant to be attached or not?

If I clean the cpu and damage it some how hen I am out warranty.

So you want them to send out a cooler already attached to the motherboard?

Because that sounds like a terrible idea.

@ExRayTed.

It says plug and play. Clearly it's not that. Could be some ropey return for all he knows.

Personally I'd return it and order it from somewhere different in case it was a ropey setup and all they do is clean it up and send it back out.

In all honesty though, with the newer auto overclocking software these days, you shouldn't need to buy prebuilt overclocked system.

ExRayTed is correct. It will have been tested as per the advert. It would make perfect sense to me to ship the system without a cooler fitted, to prevent any damage to the CPU.

As long as there is no paste in the socket, you'll be fine. It could definitely have been cleaned up a bit better though.

@JOSH86 well it did say plug and play so I was thinking if you never installed a cpu cooler this would be good buy :(

What about complete builds do they all come with the cpu cooler off? I would not thought so.

Yes I understand it was tested that what I paid for :)
Just the state it came in after waiting put me in a bad mood lol.

No bud with full builds they can pack out the inside of the case so nothing moves and it is sturdy. It's very difficult to do that with a CPU/Mobo bundle pre-assembled.

I agree the cleaning is very bodge and the Plug & Play wording is pretty odd. But installing a CPU cooler is easy.

Thanks.

I think the plug and play very misleading.
I don't think I have anything to clean it with but I need to check it wont effect my warranty if something went wrong.

Should definitely have been cleaner when it arrived to you.. doesn't look great.
With regards to the cooler.. those tower type coolers are heavy and tall, making shipping them in a motherboard bundle pretty risky. If they are inside a case already then that would be a different proposition. If nothing else it's an opportunity to install your first CPU cooler.. who knows.. next time you might be able to create your own bundle!

Thanks.

Isopropyl alcohol (pharmacies/some stores) and lint-free cloth, or visit a nearby computer shop and buy some TIM removal liquid, would be the quickest options for you.

The description for the product should definitely be altered to include mention of having to fit the cooler. And more care be taken so customers don't have to clean the CPU (and surrounding parts). The paste on the chip holder frame shouldn't be a problem even if you leave it like that, but nobody wants that there if it's their computer.

I have sent loads of systems with coolers in without them being damaged and I get that it's not exactly plug and play as stated. Although Ted is right, keeping the cooler off is always the safer way to go.

In all honesty, I would have been surprised if OcUK had sent you the system with a heatsink already installed. I'd expect the inside of the case to be packed with paper, with the heatsink amongst the paper in it's packaging, with a polite note on the front of the case explaining what needs to be done before you can use the machine.

I would have words with OcUK and explain to them that what you bought wasn't what you received as you took their advert literally.

Oh and that CPU is a bit of a mess, but nothing that can't be put right with a quick wipe of nail varnish remover, thermal compound remover or even pure alcohol.

If they had fitted the cooler, by the time it arrived it wouldnt have been fitted any more if the delivery services around here are anything to go by. :)

It would have been easier for them to fit the cooler, test it, then just leave it on there but someone was probably thinking ahead.
