It's not really an issue, but it's odd.

If I switch on my computer after it has been off for more than an hour or so, it'll light up, start humming, then switch off again. A few seconds later, it will start back up again, POST and everything is fine.

This never used to happen with my old motherboard, so I'm wondering if this is something I should be concerned about?

Same board as you, and yeah, same effects here.

Press on button, fans spin, off again, back on and POST.

Never had a problem with it, just assumed it was a "thing" the board did.

its a feature on the P35 chipset, sometimes afaik

Agreed. I have recently built 2 PCs for my family and experienced the same problem. If you ring round you will find that it is one of the querks with some motherboards with this chipset that everyone knows about except for you.

I didnt mean you in particular! It has always been the same..if you are building PCs regularly, you come across a problem, only to find that it is a common problem that you have encountered and no one has bothered to post or make a comment about it. I found out when I rang the supplier, only to be told "didn't you know about this? It is common knowledge!" IMHO, an addendum should have been added to the particular motherboard manufacturers manual advising that this could happen.

I have 4 P35 mobo's here which DO NOT do this!!
Plus I wouldn't be too happy if it did as it's not going to do your HD's any good double booting like that tbh.

I don't have the PCs to hand, but both are the MSI P35 Neo -F boards. They dont POST anway as it always happens within perhaps 1 to 2 seconds. I do not think it will have any effect on HDs as they are built to stand a lot of cycling.

Yeah, the first attempt doesn't POST so it's not touching the hard drives. I don't think the drives even get spun up by that point.

when you turn your pc off, do you turn it off at the plug?....if so, i think it checks bios settings before the main start up....P965 chipset mobos do it also:D
