Hi guys,

Is it normal for a PSU to make a hissing sound?!?!

When I turn my PC on at the wall, I noticed today that my PSU makes an electrical type sound, almost like a hiss, but it also pulses to, it's really hard to explain, the noise can only be heard when I put my ear right up to the back of the PSU, and as soon as I press the power button on the PC, it can no longer be heard, though it probably is still making the noise, but the PSU fan is drowning it out.

I was wondering if someone here who owns a Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro series PSU could check their out to see whether theirs does the same, as I'm starting to get paranoid incase it goes bang and takes out my components at the same time!!!

I hope someone can help me out here, as I've only just noticed this sound, so maybe it'd done it all its life, and I've just never heard it before until now, but still, I'd like for someone with the same unit as me to see whether theirs does the same thing.

Like I said, you can only hear it when the PC is off, and you put your ear right up against the back of the unit.

As soon as I turn off the power switch on the PSU the noise dissapears.

TIA

The PSU is switched on, it's just my PC that's off..

If I switch the PSU off with its own switch the noise stops, but as soon as I turn it back on, the noise comes back.

I really need someone with a Be Quiet Dark Power Pro to check theirs to see if they hear this sound.

I'd rather wait until someone who has the same PSU to confirm whether their makes the same sound or not first, however, I have just sent Be Quiet a webnote, explaining the issue.

Surely there is someone here with one of these PSU's that could quickly shutdown their PC and then put their ear up against the rear of their PSU????
