Hi guys, I seem to be having some trouble with my gf's internet connection. We had an BT engineer come out and sort it out but a couple of days later the ping has gone from a nice 20ms to 29/30ms.

We use the BT home hub 2.0 which is horrible at best but it was fine for gaming on the 360 etc.

I have had a look at the router statistics and the amount of errors that we are receiving surely can't be right.

There is nothing wrong with the throughput but the pings aren't the best for gaming on the 360 :(

Below is information from the bt home hub itself and would be very grateful if you could give me any pointers as to fix it.

Line state Connected
Connection time 3 days, 6:29:25
Downstream 12,691 Kbps
Upstream 828 Kbps
ADSL settings
VPI/VCI 0/38
Type PPPoA
Modulation ITU-T G.992.5
Latency type Interleaved
Noise margin (Down/Up) 5.0 dB / 5.8 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 30.0 dB / 14.8 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 21.0 dBm / 11.9 dBm
Loss of Framing (Local) 0
Loss of Signal (Local) 0
Loss of Power (Local) 0
FEC Errors (Down/Up) 2815557 / 145
CRC Errors (Down/Up) 753 / 2147480000
HEC Errors (Down/Up) nil / 127
Error Seconds (Local) 575

Sounds like he might have asked to have interleaving switched on as that would explain the rise in latency.

I understand that but after the engineer had left I was able to join games on Modern Warfare 2 under 50ms now I'm lucky to join one under 95.

I have been doing some further reading and these CRC errors aren't only linked to my end and could indicate a problem at BT's end?

The bloke had to change a wire in the house and update the connectors at the junction box and that seemed to sort it. Just a bit miffed because we were pinging under 20ms to bbc and jolt and that was with interleaving on.

Those are a lot of errors. The ping increase is posibly due to interleaving being enabled.
Make sure you try plugging directly into the test socket and using a new microfilter, Microfilters can and do go wrong. Try with a new router too if you can get hold of one, preferably something you can tweak the noise margin on to get a more stable connection.

You're probably not going to get a lot of help from BT.

The hub is connected to the master socket and we don't need to use microfilters because the bloke installed a ADSL v1.0 faceplate and told us that we didn't need them anymore.

I'm stumped as to how this has happened because there were no errors at all after he had left for a few days then the router must have re-synced and it has been sketchy at best.
