Is this normal?

Friend of mine is having issues with the cursor on the screen of his laptop jumping about!

He can be typing and all of a sudden the cursor will be somewhere else in the paragraph etc!! I have watched this happen and he is not touching a key he shouldn't be.

Anyone had this and know what causes it?

Normally cause by catching the touchpad whilst typing, often thought as a fault, there is usually an option to turn the mouse off whilst typing, it will be in mouse control panel, then in a tab called synaptics.

Yup, I have that sometimes, and it's just the palm of the hand rubbing on the trackpad.
