is this ok to do ??

Just use the molex cables and it will be fine. Try not to take them all off the same string though. Don't go soldering them to your current pci-e cables.

Soldering power cables inside a pc is a bad idea.

Solder has a low melting point, the cables carry a high current and can get hot at junctions, solder can melt & pour onto other components causing failure/fire. - solder is weak, if it breaks a uninsulated wire can touch components causing failure/fire/electric shock.

If you are going to attach cables, use a small junction box, just as everyone else does, its for a good reason.

I may be wrong on this but if you solder another pair of plugs onto your existing plugs then you may overload the psu leading to failure or at the very least experience stability issues. I sure someone can correct me if i am wrong or explain it to you properly.

Hi Blackbadger,

Was thinking if solder is prone to overheat at junctions then why use solder on power sockets on a motherboard.

Do agree solder in the wrong hands is very dangerous.

If your soldering is good and you know what your doing you won't have a problem.

Solder has a low melting point? 350 C is low? I better not switch my pc on as all the components are soldered in, they might fall out when it warms up.

But won't it overload the rails on his psu? My psu for example, has a pair of Pci-e leads on their own rails. If he solders an additional pair of plugs onto the two pci-e plugs he already has will it not overload the rails?

Very bad idea, unless im missing something, your wanting to solder 2x 6 Pin adapters on to your PSU's 2x 6 Pins, so that you can run 2x cards that need 4x 6 Pins off just 2x 6 Pins

BOOM!!!

Heres a tip, use a very, very, long stick to switch it on.:D

No disrespect to people that responded on this thread, but if there is one person i trust on these forums then its Loadsamoney

I gather you meant a very big bang with sparks LOL

the 4870s dont use that much more power than the 4850s which only have one connector, the only reason they have the 2nd is to keep within the specifications of the power connector, what wattage PSU do you have?

I did try telling you that in the first place.

It's in his siggy. 700w OCZ GameXstream. I had one of those blow up on me after onlt 10 days of use.
