Please specify why you want to upgrade. You cannot want to upgrade 'just' because you got a 3DMark03 of 12451 or do you?

Do you want to play the latest games?

Do you work on several applications at once?

Do you want to overclock the bejeezuz out of it?

Whats your budget?

i play css a lot at 1680x1056 but i may purchase some recent games soon.
i havent upgraded now for some time and i like a good fast system.
so would i be wasting money or would it be worth me splashing out on a new rig.
cheers.

Your still being rather vague, you can basically upgrade for about £500ish these days an have a pretty top notch spec, within that margin you can also fit some hefty OC'ing.

(my upgrade being based on c2d/ddr2 etc)

In that case you want a complete new rig. Mobo,CPU,Gfx,RAM,PSU.

Ok, you should be able to overclock the Quad to 3GHZ+ and with good temps. Dont worry about if you havent ovclocked before, its fairly stright forward, just read a few guides before hand. Their are also people on here that are willing to help you if you get stuck.

The Tuniq Tower CPU cooler is a fantastic CPU Cooler and will cool that Quad of yours very well.

The Abit IP35 Pro is a fantastic P35 chipset board, very reliable, solid and great overclocking potinal. It also fully supports Intels upcoming 45nm processors (Penryn). The board you picked out is vastly expensive and a slightly older chipset.

The G.Skill 4GB DDR2 is very reliable memory and you wont have any problems with it.

The 8800GTX is a fantastic card, very powerful and pretty quite too.

The Western Digital Hard Drives are very reliable and quite.

If its for gaming a Soundcard is a must have to be honest. It makes quite a big diffrence from the onboard sound controller.

The ASUS DVD Drive connectos to your motherboard via SATA connection, this means you can cancel the onboard IDE controllerwhich will help with boot times. Also you can get rid of them ugly IDE cables.

The Corsair PSU is one of the best power supplys around, very reliable and very quite.

The Akasa case is amazing, brilliant build quality and cooling is of a very high standard too.

Now i have also added Vista Home Premium for you, i know that you may not want to move to Vista now but i highly recomend dual booting, its a great way to experinace Vista fully but if you do come across any problems you can still use XP.

Im not to sure if you would like to spend that amount of money, If not just say and ill change a few parts. Though that rig should see you a massive improvement over your old system. You get a Quad Core, 4GB of Memory, a 8800GTX, Vista what more could you want. :p :)
