Some of you have probably used this Zalman cooler. In the pic it is installed on a P4. Another roughly similar Zalman cooler that was for P4 AND Athlon installed on to P4's exactly like THIS one does. Please jump to the second pic.

Here you see the bolt-arm. I know that the OTHER Zalman cooler that I mentioned used adapters to allow those metal arms to be bolted on to an Athlon socket. My question is does THIS Zalman cooler come with another metal arm that has the bolt holes slightly further out OR are they already in the right position for installing on to an Athlon socket?

If you have used the above Zalman cooler but are confused what I'm asking please say so. I can clarify. I can get Zalman adapter brackets for Athlon sockets, but I don't know if those bolt holes will be in the right spot.

Thanks!

edit: By "Athlon socket", I mean socket 462 or socket A (I don't remember which is the proper term).

The amd brackets is already included because whenever I bought my zalman 9700 it has both brackets for intel / amd

edit: they should fit perfectly imo since they are included with cooler

Great thanks. Reason I ask is because I got that cooler exactly as you see it in the pic. I didn't buy it separately with all parts. I want to move that on to an Athlon. I CAN get the Zalman adapter brackets for socket 462/A. I just needed to know if the bolting arm circled in that pic will have the bolt holes aligned with the socket 462/A adapter brackets. If not then the kit must come with a separate bolting arm for socket 462/A.

Do you remember if it came with two separate length bolting arms OR just the one arm already on it?

Thanks!

I have one of these lying around somewhere, I'm pretty sure they come with two different arms, one for each bracket that came with it.

To be honest, once I read your edit about socket 462 / A. Im out of information :D

However you said that you can get adapter brackets for it maybe check from where you are getting if it has all the parts ie bolts / arms needed

Now that you mentioned "9700" (I didn't know the name of it) I looked it up. This one is actually the 9500... a little different from the 9700.

So um yeah, it comes with two different arms and it's not meant to be compatible with socket 462/A. The adapter brackets I mentioned that I can get are for the 7000 (the "other" Zalman cooler I was referring to)... that MIGHT work though. Will have to do some measurements.

Thanks guys

Just a clarification: Does "socket A" refer to installing with those snap-on clips ONLY? And does "Socket 462" only refer to what the CPU goes in to? If so what is the "socket" term for a socket 462 install where you use bolts instead of the snap-on clips (socket A)? Is there a different term or is it just 462/A for single core Athlon XP cpu's?

This would be for a Athlon XPM2500+

Thanks

I just realized that the rectangular base of the 9500 is probably too narrow to fit on the pads on a xpm2500+

It's still installed on the P4, so difficult to tell, but looks that way.

Darn.
