2 monitors, one showing Vista media center (live TV, full screen) and the other playing a game on?

Is it possible and if so, what kind of a performance hit would the gaming take. I'm pretty sure that 8800 doesn't use the gpu core for video?

It's possible, and is more likely if the game will run in a windowed mode, or you'll have to balance the game Resolution with your Windows resolution. There will be a hit, you'll notice it.

get cheap 8600/2400 put it in the 2nd pcie and run the screen with tv on that

It's a great idea but I don't think 2 seperate cards is possible is it?
