Virgin Broadband comes in from the front and is hidden inside the tv cabinet. The office is in the conservatory some 6 meters away.

Can i run an RJ45 cable from Virgin hub to another access point in the conservatory, where the main PC is housed, and run all my accessories off that (such as hue bridge, Tado controller etc).

Here's the kicker...i want the accessories, which are connected to the access point, to filter all their commands and stuff through the virgin hub and not the access point because the virgin hub is in the optimum position in the house and the access point is not. The access point will only be used as an extension to plug more things in from a distance if that makes sense.

Is this possible?

This sums up what i mean:

Is everything connecting to the Access point hard wired? If so isn't an unmanaged switch what you want to use?

Yes, everything will be hard wired to the access point which in turn will be hardwired to virgin hub.
Unmanaged switch?!?! Sorry, im a noob :/

An unmanaged switch is just like an extension lead you use on a power outlet. Let's you plug multiple Ethernet devices into one port on your virgin hub. Sounds exactly like what you need

Ah right. So all network traffic in and out will still be through the virgin hub?

Will this increase latency? Or have issues of its own?

I edited my previous post with a link to one, yep all traffic will still go out through your virgin hub.

As for latency, there will probably be a tiny increase, but I mean tiny increase <1ms

When you say optimum position, are you saying that your office isn't a good area for wifi etc?

That's right yes.
Office is in conservatory at the back of the house but the hub will be in the lounge who is kind of the center of the house so good coverage through out living spaces and bedrooms

Remember, that the Hue doesn't use Wifi to control your lights. It uses an alternative technology that is emitted from the Hue hub.

You just need an unmanaged gigabit switch. The virgin hub still routes and controls the traffic etc and would be the wifi access point.

The switch would simply just allow you to provide ethernet access to the devices you mentioned. Plus allow wired access to PC/consoles if necessary within the conservatory.
