Hey guys, just wondered if any of you experts know if its possible for me to get my ram upto the full 1600mhz, after my overclocking it has dropped to 1445mhz. Now it could well be a setting in the bios that i need to change, but im still fairly new to overclocking and am unsure as to what im missing. My specs are below in my signature. But the i7 860 is now at 3.8ghz stable. Here are my bios settings, if ive made a mistake or would be better off changing an options please someone tell me what it is i need to change.

Bios Settings

Cpu ratio - 21
Speedstep - disabled
Xtreme phase full power mode - Enabled
BCLK Freq - 181
Dram Freq - 103
Qpi Freq - auto
Oc Tuner limit value - good performance
Dram timing controls

dram cas latency - 9 dram clocks
dram ras to cas delay - 9
dram ram pre time - 9
dram ram act time - 28
dram ras to ras delay - auto
dram red cycle time - auto
dram write recovery - auto
draw read - auto
dram four act win time - auto
dram timing mode - 2N
Everything else on Dram option Auto

Cpu Differential amplitude - 1000mv
Cpu Clock Stew - auto
Cpu Voltage Mode - manuel
Fixed voltage - 1.35000
Imc Voltage - 1.17500
Dram Voltage - 1.6500
Cpu PLL - auto
Pch Voltage - auto
Load line calibration - Enabled
Cpu spread spectrum - Disabled
Pcie spread spectrum - Disabled.

So if i try to put the ram upto 1600 with these settings it fails to boot. So obviously for that to happen i must need to change something. Please can some of you experts point me in the right direction.

Thanks for your time guys.

Think you can change the CPU PLL but cant remember what mine is. I wouldnt worry about the RAM speed if the system is stable the extra 155mhz is not going to make that much difference. I think most people with similiar setups underclock the RAM anyway as its best way to stabilise CPU overclock.

Think mine is about 1500mhz but thats only because the Gigabyte board sets it in relation to the CPU ratio/freq.

It's going to be to do with the way your motherboard uses memory dividers to hit the target RAM frequency.

That's beside the point though, as 150MHz of extra RAM speed will provide absolutely no discernible performance benefit. If what you have is stable, and you are happy with your CPU overclock then leave it alone.

CPU PLL is 1.8v default i have mine set at 1.88v because of my overclock.
and I agree set you ram speed timings to there default spec and your ram to (depending on your multipler) the setting closest to 1600mz or the one under that (that will be between 1000mz and 1600mz.
In won't make much difference in games possibly 1fps.
edit : i also set my qpi/dram to 1.375v

Ok guys, i tried changing it to 19x and 200x, fails to boot. then tried 19x, 200x, and pll volts on 1.90 ( because 1.88 is not possible ) and i upped the volts to 1.375 and still wont boot. Any other ideas? am i missing something

you won't need 1.9v pll for 4GHz... you'll probably have to up QPIv as you've increased your QPI speed, Vcore shouldn't need any adjustment if you're arriving at the same clock speed as before, but if you're using an asus board, i believe an even multi is more stable than an odd number (gigabyte seem to prefer odd multipliers).

Those are the settings I have for a stable 4GHz on an i5 750^

I needed 1.35v vcore, and 1.254v VTT/QPI

I still reckon if you are happy with your current 3.8GHz overclock, then having your RAM slightly underclocked isn't a big deal.

You don't, you need to set it to x4. 800MHz gives DDR 1600.

There must be a setting called memory ratio or multiplier somewhere in your bios.

pretty sure you cant change memory multiplier or ratio in my bios for this board. All you can change apparentely is the DRAM frequency. all that gives me in there is 3 speed options. 1 is below 1 is at whatever speed im clocked at. right now something like 1440mhz and the other is 1800 ish. if i stay on the 1440 which im on then im not hitting the full 1600 i want. if i try the larger one it fails to boot. Anything else i can try?
