I recently bought a slot loading DVD drive (slimline) and I wanted to swap the LED on the front for one that was blue (it is the standard green at the moment). Problem is, it is an SMD LED and now im a bit stuck. I was also planing on moving the eject button but that is also on the same bit as the LED and I dont think I can move it.

Any ideas on what I could do?
Is it possible to extend the ribbon thing that it is all on?

Any help/advice is really appreciated

Thanks.

seems like a good idea but is there really any point? you cant see the led unless the drive is in use?

Even if I cant change the LED I would still need to move the eject button.
If it means that the LED wont work then so be it (would be nice if I can change the colour though) but the button needs to be moved by about 30mm.

I doubt you'd be able to extend the ribbon it's on, however replacing it completely (tracing back where it connects to on the controller board and soldering some thin kynar wire directly) shouldn't be too difficult.

Even better if the current ribbon is held in to the board by a zif socket of some type, as that way should the replacement cabling not work, you could always put it back.

That's a good point, I am yet to take it apart to see where it all connects to controller board.

I will try to dismantle it now and post back.
