Is this Possible?

Hello,
I'm not sure if this is the right section?

I'm currently using x2 monitors for my PC, connected via DVI..
I just bought a playstation 3 and hooked it up to one of my desktop monitors via HDMI, which doesnt have any speakers attached. So i currently have no sound coming from the PS3..
Is there something I can use, or some speakers that will allow me to switch sources without having to replug the cables each time?

The ideal situation would be that I press a switch and the monitor would switch to HDMI (ps3) and speakers would switch to the PS3 audio.. but I can see how that may not be posible

So one source is the PS3 sound and the other is your PC?

You could look for a speaker system(standalone Amp would be best?) that has Optical and Phono inputs; then use optical from the PS3 and use standard 3.5mm from your PC.

That way you could switch between music sources.

I don't think there's any way you could switch both audio and video at the flick of a button, unless both sources were HDMI and you had an AV Amp that can handle multiple HDMI inputs and output via one HDMI.

AFAIK you need to have the screen hooked up to some form of sound output. That means it has to be directly linked to the screen, not the PC. So you wont be able to play sound from your PS3 out of your PC speakers if your PC speakers are directly connected to your tower.

I think you're going to have to just plug your speakers into your monitor constantly. I'd leave them plugged in and then get your PC to use your monitor as the default sound output device. That way you don't have to constantly plug and unplug.

Would that do what I want? Being able to switch the audio sources from PC and PS3? What would I need to setup something like this?

Ok I think ive figured out the best way for me to achieve this..

Ill get an optical cable switch for the audio, plug it into my sound system.. and then into the ps3+PC

That should sort the audio..by just flicking a switch

Then for the monitors Ill get a HDMI switch....

Now will this all work as planned? by pressing the button on each switch?

I did find another switch which does the HDMI + Optical in 1 unit.. but the price is around £170-200.. whereas the seperate switches cost around £20-30 together
