I have just ordered 2 X 4 Gb's DDR3, My computer already has 2 X 2 GB's memory in it at the moment.
Can I just add the new 4 GB sticks in the vacant slots for 12 GB's or is it better to run the 2 X 4 GB's in the dual channel mode and sell the other two.
The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H (Socket M2), and the processor is an AMD 1090T running at stock.

Any advice appreciated.

What do you use your system for? For most people anything over 8GB is a waste anyways, there are a few specific tasks where more than 8GB can be useful.

It should run both sets of modules in Dual channel. I'd say install it, see how you get on, keep an eye on memory usage. If it doesn't get anywhere near 8GB sell the 4GB and put it towards something else.

Thanks to all for your advice.

I will try and see what happens at best it will work with 12GB's of memory, at worst it will have 8GB's and I will sell the other 4GB's
